What is the best gaming mouse for someone who uses a claw style grip? I am looking through a number of options including the Logitech G9x, Razer Lachesis, Mionix Naos (3200 or 5000), and Steelseries Xai.Every one of them seem to have pros and cons. The G9x seems to have the most features and the least cons, but it is also the most expensive.

For those tired of all my "help me pick" threads lately; sorry about that! Soon everything will be replaced and they will stop.

I hate that term because it's not descriptive. Which is claw? Moving the mouse with your fingertips? If so, the G9 is perfect for that.

The Razor mice are only good if you're left handed, otherwise you're giving up ergonomics, never heard of Mionix, and the Steelseries mice look huge and also symmetrical so bad ergonomics.

Mionix Naos has an ergonomic design that heavily favors palm, as in it even has a wing that sticks out on the right side of the mouse where your ring and pinky finger are supposed to rest, so unless your claw grip leans far more towards a palm than finger I would avoid this one the most. I'm sure there are some people who have this mouse and claim they claw it, but I just don't see how it would be comfortable.

Razer Lachesis is supposed to be designed specifically for claw, but I just never got used to it. From what I've heard from others it seems to be a design you're going to either love or hate, it could be perfect or just a total disappointment. But I am a mostly finger grip with average sized hands, perhaps if you have larger hands it might be worth a shot, but I can't be confident in a recommendation of it over the next two mice based on my experience.

Steelseries Xai has a design that is the most ambiguous of the bunch when it comes to ergonomics. It can be gripped in just about any style, however I have found its slightly better for finger than claw, and while it can be palmed its not the most comfortable or natural feeling for palm grip. It has some of the most unique features of the other mice such as the ability to completely program it from the LCD on the bottom without installing the "driver" (the Xai's driver isn't really a driver, its just software to make it easier to program the mouses' settings, the drivers are located entirely on the mouse itself). That being said, its probably one of the most buggy when it comes to software, programming macros is a nightmare. But this is my favorite and thus current mouse of choice for my finger grip.

Logitech G9x really is most likely your best bet even if it is the most expensive. It comes with two interchangeable grips, its default grip with the rubberized coat is one of the most comfortable and natural feeling claw grips I have ever experienced. Its alternate grip (the rough plastic) is intended for the finger grippers like myself. Logitech's software is also amongst the most reliable and least buggy. And their warranty is second to none, basically 3 years super lenient replacement policy and even if your 3 years is up they're likely to offer you a 50% off coupon from their online store just to try and keep you with them.

***all of the mice above have internal memory that all you to fully program them (up to at least five different profiles worth) so that you could then uninstall the software/driver and have the mouse run the same as programed on any computer you plug it in to.

Claw is in between palm and finger, its where only the back part of your palm touches and your fingers are arched far more making your hand look like its about to claw something...

finger is where only your finger tips touch the mouse

palm is where your entire palm is flat and rested on top of the mouse

The claw grip I use is just like the one pictured above. Bunny; from your description is sounds like the Xai or the G9x are the way to go. The G9x is expensive, but I may need to just suck it up, and drop the money on it in order to get something I'll be happy with. At the end of the day that's what's important to me. After all it's something which will last through multiple builds.

I love my G700 for my claw grip simply because the buttons can be pressed even far passed the scroll wheel. If you look at pictures of it, I can easily click the left and right mouse buttons up to the two "G" buttons behind the scroll wheel.

The G9 / G9X was pretty good too, but I found it a bit small.

Well I can't really handle the ergonomic style mice. I'll try to explain the problem with them. Back in the day I had one of these:

The problem with the mouse when using a claw grip is that I am essentially holding the mouse sideways. This means when I pan side to side in an FPS game for example that I am actually panning on an angle. This makes lining up shots very difficult, if not impossible.

I love my VX Revolution personally. Laptop style mouse (which is great when I'm on the go), but works perfectly and has a full desktop style mouse featureset.

I have a VX revolution for my laptop as well, but I wouldn't want to use it for a desktop mouse. Again the ergonomic design means I can't really use it for gaming, plus I find it a bit small.

Holy shit. That is one bad-ass looking mouse. And, surprisingly, looks like most reviews are decent (as much stock as you can put in reviews...)

I'm using one myself right now and have for probably about 2(?) months or so. The mouse itself really is pretty awesome. It feels solidly built, very comfortable (possibly my favorite mouse ever in that regard), useful adjustments, and generally fantastic button placement. However, I'm considering going back to my G9x as the RAT7 has some odd quirks. The most major of which is the sensor that they decided to use is the most finicky in regards to even the slightest amount of dust/debris that I've ever used, you can't see it but will know it as the mouse movement will become jittery. Rarely the sensor also seems to briefly lose movement on either the x or y axis. On occasion (too frequently for my tastes) it will also just "freak out" while in game, to be fair this most likely has to do with a particular persons lift/reposition/drop technique and may or may not apply to someone else. Another odd thing that I have never actually seen in a mouse before, upon booting Windows when you arrive at the user select login screen the mouse is unresponsive for about two seconds, this doesn't cause any problems other than I just find it odd. Both Razer and Logitech software are better as well. Quite honestly if they stuffed the G9x's sensor in this shell it would really be the first perfect mouse I've ever used.

So, I have one of those mousepads with the gel pad which I rest my wrist on. My palm generally doesn't touch the mouse at all; I'm assuming this is a 'finger' hold, or is it the same thing as a 'claw' hold?

I've been using the Logitech G7 for years, and the batteries are really starting to give out. I'd love a wireless, but it seems that pretty much all gaming mice now are wired unless I spend $100+ on a Mamba or somesuch (which I'd rather not).
The Lachesis looks pretty good, as does the RAT7, but I'm concerned about all the stuff in the way of the thumb area on that one. The 9x looks kinda small.

Well, do you use a claw grip or are you a finger tipper? Very similar but the finger tipper is more relaxed looking, fingers more extended. The RAT 7 will work well for either style. The Lachesis is (most all symmetrical Razers actually) awesome for finger tippers.

So I would be a "finger tipper" then. Honestly the RAT7 scares me a bit with all its buttons and hangey-on bits, but at the same price as the Razer, I guess I have some decisions to make.

I went out and picked up a G9x today, and so far I love it.I actually find the larger grip comfortable even using a claw grip. $100 is a lot for a mouse, but I figured it will last through several builds so I might as well get something good. The weights are a nice touch, and there are many options in the software which I haven't even begin to play with yet.
