Im in the market for a new mouse, and i cant seem to pick one out of the dozens of ones that say they are gonna be the best for me....i play FPS, Open world, and alot of minecraft....i was looking at the razer naga to use with minecraft but i dont want those buttons to be in the way when im using it on other games, im right handed, ill probably be using on a razer scarab next to a razer blackwidow ultimate, also, and this is important, i use natty narwhal...ive heard about alot of mice maxing out and defaulting setting when used in linux, it doesnt have to be configurable in linux, just usable with settings i made in windows...also ill probly be running multi monitor stuff eventually.

So any suggestions? should i just go with the naga because the buttons wont get in the way? or will they?

Thanks.

I like my Razer mouse for performance, its the mamba, but its battery life is terrible, my nearly 8 year old MX1000 has better battery life than the mamaba does brand new. I've had general reliability and build quality issues with the Razer so I cant recommend them very highly. I've loved me 518 logitech though.

I don't know how "gaming" the new g400 is but it allows macros to be set with the soft ware that comes with it, and you can change the dpi on the fly. I got one and I love it!

In the mouse world, honestly, it really comes down to experience and personal preference. It is all about what feels comfortable and what features you might need. Cant tell you how many times I see people recommending mice that I personally have used that feel like garbage to me. Its all personal preference.

G500 is very accurate. Good for pinpoint headshots.

Yup i love my G500 which i got today to replace a pos m705 wireless.

Was skeptical but the G500 is in another league and i won't be replacing this mouse for a while the best $45 iv'e spent

This, every other poster is probably wrong. In the end there are really only two mandatory criteria for how good a mouse is.

The first is sensor performance. Generally in this day and age, most of the high-end mice have good enough sensors. Don't get caught up in the 10K DPI marketing BS.

The second is shape. This is why a mouse isn't great for everybody. We all hold our mice differently with our unique hands. Unfortunately though, its very hard to tell if a mouse will fit you well just from the internet. I'm a claw gripper at heart yet I can't stand most of the claw grip mice. My absolute favorite form was the Copperhead, but that mouse had one of the worst sensors in history.

Almost defeats the purpose of a kick ass gaming keyboard:biggrin:
Kick ass gaming keyboards rarely ever had a purpose to begin with. From a performance standpoint, custom scripts made with something like autohotkey or even the games internal scripting language allow everything to be executed without leaving the home row.

Never spent over $15 on a keyboard ever i'm typing to you on a $15 newegg logitech k120 wired usb.

Slim profile and the low profile keys make it ideal for my fingers not having to reach in funny places.

My friend tried talking me into buying a g19 keyboard like he had and we played alot of BC2 together and i still kicked his ass with my newegg special keyboard so badly apparently i was hacking :awe:

I love my Mamba as a mouse, but glad I'm not the only one who notices it has horrible battery life. I've considered just taking out the battery and leaving it wired. Great mouse and a deal as I got mime for $50, but they need a second revision with a way better battery. I also loved my Diamondback 3G, but the problem that annoys me on both is the noisy scroll wheels. I know they can be fixed but I shouldn't have to tear apart my mouse to fix it.

Get the mouse that fits your hand, and fingers. Personally, I can't stand wired mice. I'll put up with the claimed lag - I care far more about the annoying leash. If you have big hands, I really like my Sidewinder X8.

Personally, I don't use keyboards to game. I used to use a Nostromo N52 keypad but have since migrated to a Logitech G13.

Currently, using a G9 mouse but would go to a G700 if the G9 died.

I like my G700. I use it wired. I had a Logitech Dual Optical, followed by a Sidewinder X8 that died.

I never got why real time dpi changes were ever wanted. I'd much rather bind a key to change my sensitivity so I keep accuracy high both at low and high sens... but even changing sense... why? Who really changes sens in real time?

Bah.

Anyway check out the Razer Mamba, Lachesis and Logitech G500 and G9x... However the G9x looks really uncomfortable to me.

I got top 20 at Quakecon 2004 for Quake3 and I currently play SC2 in masters league. I could probably get Grandmasters but I have a dayjob.

You can increase sensitivity on a mouse but you will lose the precision. You will also lose precision using a higher DPI mouse but it's not as much. So cranking the DPI to maximum and changing your sensitivity to something comfortable is the smartest thing to use since the accuracy of the mouse will be at max.

edit - Just putting it out there that this is for good gaming mice. Some middle of the range mice tend to start getting negative acceleration at max DPI and low sensitivity. ESReality has a great write up on this effect and also tested a bunch of mice some years back.

I agree. It goes against the very idea of learning how to use the mouse as an extension of yourself.

Haha I read your pre-edit in the e-mail I received. I agree with the game setting sensitivity lower or higher (or even introducing instability) for a realism factor. I do not however agree with lowering the accuracy of the mouse. Why buy a 5000DPI+ mouse and then lower it arbitrarily or each time the game decides to lower your sensitivity?

Depends on the game. In BF2 and BFBC2, I find changing the sensitivity to be quite helpful based on the vehicle to steer/rotate the turrent you may use compared to aiming/firing as infantry.

I wrote in a previous post that using a macro/bind for sens changes is ok even if I did rant about why anyone should have to change their sens... but you've summed up a great point about having to use a different sensitivity for vehicles or for any gameplay sens needs which the developers never included.

However; I believe changing the DPI of your mouse to anything but maximum is a terrible idea
