DOS 6.22.

I think it has been asked a hundred times. Home is for home, gaming is usually at home, so I would say Home. Some Home & Pro expert prove me wrong, please.

I am no search angel, but I do try my best to search before I post, so please try to do so as well in future.

XP in either form. I use pro myself, but I had a need at the time I bought it to go with the extra's in pro. Otherwise either should work just fine.

Of course, some prefer 2k, 98, etc. for gaming, but XP works just fine.

hehe. i won't mention how many hits came up under the search for "best os" but i think i maxed out.

anyway, home should be fine. xp pro has more security stuff built in, but that shouldn't make a difference for gaming. i'm running xp home at home and it plays games just fine.

here is some windows xp information, on the different versions.

and dos 6.22 OWNS you.

I have only 256 at the time and my next purchase will definately be more ram... At this time, XP Pro runs quite a bit slower than 2000 Pro with the same hardware...

I prefer 2K just cause it saves me a gig of space and windows XP has nothing compelling for me to upgrade. Plus no bloat and spyware

Games perform near identical on XP, 2K, and 98SE. However, the stability gained from going with XP and 2K is wonderful. Extra security, networking features, NTFS, and better memory management are other reasons to go with an NT based OS. Don't use ME under any circumstances. It is the bastard child of all OSes.

Unless you know which services to disable in Win2k/WinXP, then stick with Win98SE for pure gaming.

The "home" or "pro" versions will have no differentiation when it comes to gaming...shop your budget..

There is no reason to go disabling services right and left in Win2k/XP. If you have only 256MB of RAM I would certainly recommend it, but for the little hassle involved, I feel the advantages gained much outweigh any supposed "advantages" Windows 98 could have. Anyway, there is definitely not much of a speed difference.

It's worth the extra stability, security, networking features, better memory management, and the NTFS filing system to go through the trouble of disabling services. Further, if you have over 256MB of memory it shouldn't really slow you down anyway. Also, it is extremely easy to find out which services are "safe" to disable or not. Just go on google and do a search for pages containing the information. Just save it in your favorites and disable one service at a time to ensure no problems crop up.
