Best gun for conceal carry?

Cheap and durable? I would go with ruger lcp although not my favorite gun for ccw. I have a sig p238, I prefer it for the better build quality and switched safety since it's a pocket gun.

Size depends on how you want to carry. I prefer pocket carry, which limits you a good bit. Some of the tinier 9mm fit ok but imo that's about as large of a round as you can carry in a pocket holster.

Concealed carry used to mean, "what gun can I use at 7 feet?"

Modern concealed carry takes that into account but is a whole other ball game.

What distance do you want? It's all a trade off between capacity/caliber and barrel length.

0.50! You don't even need bullets then, pull it out and they'll crap themselves. But on a more serious note, depends how concealable you want it. For serious protection 9mm or .38 are about as low as are recommended, but there are some very tiny .22LR.

Try the MK-19 Grenade Machine Gun. It fires a 40mm round up to 2.5 kilos. If the Chinese hordes ever invade ... this is the best "concealed" weapon you could ask for. You are almost guaranteed to take out thousands of reds before they ultimately overwhelm you. You will never truly understand the potency of this weapon until you are near one being fired. Truly awesome:

I don't conceal carry so I don't know how much help I can offer the OP, but doesn't the SIG-Sauer P238 cost like $500-600? That doesn't meet the "cheap" criteria the OP was looking for. It will probably get mentioned by others, but another option which gets mentioned a lot for concealed carry is the S&W Shield

Why do you need a gun when you can just pray to Jesus? He is all-powerful, he will protect you.

What is 'cheap'? I have a Sig P290 and really like it. I have shot a few moderate sized Taurus models that I really like, they are cheaper. I wanted something bigger than 380 ACP, but I have this urge to buy a snubby revolver these days. Give us a little more info.

How cheap are we talking? And what caliber? If you really do mean cheap; High Point C9.

Who is it that you're afraid is going to get you? Just curious.
I don't think OP should have to justify his reasons. I live 2-3 hours away from 8 of the most dangerous cities in the US. My neighbors house and RV has been broken into, people in my area (thank god not in my actually city. I'm in a semi rural area) have been mugged, kidnapped and rapped. Home invasions are becoming more common and many times, 911 isn't an option.

He doesn't necessarily have to be afraid of anything. If you have a fire extinguisher, does that mean your afraid your house is going to burn down? If you have a spare tire, does that mean your afraid one is going to pop? No. Not usually. You have it just in case something does happen. It's not about living in fear.

I recently picked up a M&P Shield and it's awesome for summer carry. Cost is around $400.

What is your definition of cheap? Right now the best out there in a small CCW for a good price is the Smith and Wesson Shield. They run $400 and under, available in both 9mm and .40. It's a slim single stack for good conceal ability. The LCP is a good choice if your on a real tight budget but I don't consider .380 a good primary defense weapon, especially these days with everyone screwed up on meth and crack.

My CCW right now is a Sig P239 is .40. Great gun but it's expensive and heavy, but I have an affinity for all steel guns.

Cheap = <$700 for everything including hoster. Pretty much want a reliable gun that won't jam on me and good stopping power but is comfortable enough to carry daily.

For that price point you'll have lots of options. Might be worth considering the SIG-Sauer P250 2SUM since that would give you a bit more flexibility.
