Best hard drive

ive heard western digital is a really good brand of hard drive im just wondering what everyone else thinks the best hard drive is.

I like them. The last one that I had went though hard drive hell and came out shinning. I'm too lazy to look, but if you search for my GH posts, you'll find the story.

That drive was a 3.1GB. I now have a WD SE 80GB.

Funnily enough, this question has been asked at least 200 times in the past 12 weeks,
and funnily enough, when i did a search for "Hard Drive", it came up with 3 threads in the list all asking "Which is the best hard drive"

Depends what your looking for. Size? Speed? Combination of both? IDE? SCSI?

Some people will take 15,000 rpm drives @ 18 or so gigs while others will take 10,000rpm drives with 36gigs and others with 7200rpm drives from 20gigs to upto 200 (220?)gigs, or even 5400 rpm drives to save money.

seagate has never failed me. i have heard goodthings about maxtor and WD too

I've got a WD 80GB, Maxtor 120GB, and Seagate 80GB in my system right now and have not had any problems with them. Stick to one of these "Big 3" brands and you really shouldn't notice much difference.

I always get WD because they usually offer the best performing drives at the best prices. I have owned Maxtor in the past, though, and was OK with them. One of them died yesterday, but I have used it for 4 years. That's acceptable to me.

I love my WD with 8MB cache. (800JB) but I hear the new IBM 120GXP is awesome too.

I'd say it's one of those 2. I am not really sure as I have never used a 120GXP but I love my WD SE that's for sure!
