DS was fun because my roommates in college were playing it. On it's own it's just another D2 clone. DS2 is similar.

I have both Dungeon Siege 2 and Titan Quest, and I've put far more hours into TQ. Graphics/textures are cleaner and sharper, combat is more satifying, and it's fun to experiment with the various class combinations. On the higher difficulties, you start to get some really slick looking item drops. Normal difficulty is not terribly exciting, so I would speedrun through to unlock Epic and Legendary.

With the exception of online FPSs, TQ and Morrowind are probably the two games I've put the most hours into overall, but I don't think Morrowind would really be considered modern anymore.

I also have Sacred 1, but I'm having a hard time getting into it. The combat feels pretty sterile compared to TQ, where you could knock enemies up into the air and send them flying if you hit them hard enough.

That said so is guild wars a good game? i herd titans quest and sacred are good D2 type games, i might give them a shot.

Titans Quest is pretty bad ass. I haven't played the other two that you mention, so I can't comment on them.

The Witcher is my favorite recent RPG, but the map isn't as open as Oblivion. Mass Effect was pretty fun too, but it was a little repetitive.

Guild Wars is not like D2, at least not in gameplay. GW sucks imo.

Failure, GW is the best MMO to date. An MMO where you don't grind, max level is acheived quickly, and success is acheived through skill, who could ask for more? It's the skill-based part of an FPS with the multiplayer-skill based part of MMOs.

1) GW is not an MMO
2) All that having a low max level does is make me less attached to my character.
3) EVERYBODY LOOKS THE SAME (of the same class, I mean)
4) GW requires no more skill than most MMOs. I have no clue why you think it does.

To the OP,

Titan Quest is the best D2 clone I've played. It makes a lot of improvements on gameplay, including more diverse classes and skillsets, comparison windows, and shared banking. However, the story is not nearly as interesting.

Mass Effect and KotOR are decent if you have no played them yet.

this. GW is no more an MMO than Never Winter Nights. It just doesn't rely on Gamespy and dedicated servers.

GW is not a bad game but it just isn't comparable to WoW, EQ2, EVE or City of Heroes. It is what it is and that is not a bad thing. It fits a large demographic of gamers. Having given 2 copies away, that I got for free... I can say that the game just doesn't have a lot going for it the way I play.

I would rather play Lord of the Rings Online.

People get bitchy if you call a Playstation and Xbox. Why? Because it isn't.

Neverwinter Nights 2 isn't a bad one either. People over look it since it wasn't as good as the first one, but I think it is worth a play.

I've played quite a few RPG's over the last few years (it's my favorite genre). Here are a few games that stick out as 'good' off the top of my head.

Titan Quest - It's more of an action/RPG/hack n' slash than a pure RPG, but it has a decent story line and you'll care about leveling up your charactor just as much as any traditional RPG. I've had many hours of fun playing that game.

Gothic 3 - It was probably the most buggy game I've played, but as the patches came out things started to get better little by little. It has a nice large open world to explore. My only real gripe about this game is that it felt like occasionaly there was some main quest work to do, but it was more a collection of side quests.

Never Winter Nights 2 - Another game that was pretty buggy for me (I bought it when it came out). It was buggy enough that I stopped playing due to all kinds of problems I had. I haven't played it since, but I got about 30 hours into it and really did enjoy it when it worked. I want to play it again, but have since lost my disc somewhere.

These are a bit older and 2D, but I also liked Divine Divinity and played a lot (but never finished) of Beyond Divinity. Sometimes they lean more towards hack n' slash, at times more towards more traditional RPG. But, I really like to fire them up and play them from time to time.

Those are the ones I can think of right now. I've played plenty of mediocre games also (Two Worlds and Oblivion were very 'meh' but I had high expectations for... oh well).

It?s happened plenty of times.
I am tired of it.
This thread is a perfect example of how people are unable to come up with solid, logical arguments and points for persuasion.
I am sure some of you guys think I am "holier than thou" because I actually know how to use my brain and that terrifies you.

Having the same problem in the Blu-Ray thread in Off Topic. I am the only person able to make intelligent arguments there and everyone else just fills their posts with lists of why I suck. In the giant pissing contests of Anandtech, the person with the largest bladder seems to always win and that damn sure isn?t me.
Do a search in PC Games. I have already stated in detail why Titan Quest is better. I loved Diablo 2 when it came out. I played all classes up to about level 70.
Titan Quest came later. It is better.
The only real reason anybody can come up with Diablo 2 being better is because they played it first, therefore it rocks.
I think everyone should review the list of logical fallacies and see why that doesn?t make a lot of sense.

You played all of them up to 70? I've gotten level 80 in a day, in hardcore mode. You've scratched the surface at best. I got bored with TQ after 1 play through in the normal difficulty, and bored of sacred 2 after getting to level 60 (45 hours gameplay). Diablo 2 has been fun from 1-99, to hardcore dueling, to torch running, trading items online, powerleveling for fgs, ironmans, magic finding, etc etc. Thousands of hours of fun and a game that 10 years later is still being updated with new content. The fact you can come here, argue that Diablo 2 is not only on the same level as TQ or Sacred 2, but actually WORSE, and call that an "intelligent argument".... Is just face palm material frankly.

Zenoth goes with the obvious route, not arguing that one game is better but saying its a matter of opinion and you can't say your opinion is right and others are wrong (I think red is better than blue, therefore red is better than blue and you are wrong if you think otherwise). He's got a good point, but I'd take it a step further and say no, I think you are wrong, because one game is much better than the other. Of course your the only one intelligent enough to know otherwise. Your probably just wasting your intellect on all of us nostalgic dark age Neanderthals. The fact that many more players are playing Diablo 2 online right now, 10 years since 1999, than are playing TQ, is clearly some sort of conspiracy, or perhaps they are all just much less intellingent than you. With less taste for games, obviously.

Rumor has it that the 1.13 patch will be out, along with a ladder reset, by the end of April. I know what game I'll be playing.

D2 was one of my favourite games of all time. I'd still play it if they did a HD overhaul of it.

I need to start playing it again. I got side tracked with other games and life interventions and only finished like half of EOTN.

Same here, although I was never enamored with Warcraft 2 either. (Warcraft 3 was alright. Come to think of it, Diablo 1 and Starcraft were the only Blizzard games that I really enjoyed.)

Diablo 2 just felt like Diablo 1 with some minor additions. It wasn't even as much of an upgrade as Doom 2 was over Doom, or at least it didn't feel like it, and Doom 2 was barely any different than Doom 1. Titan Quest (with the expansion) is pretty much the game I thought Diablo 2 was going to be. It fixes all of the major issues I had with Diablo 1, and adds some extra features that are really useful that I wouldn't have thought about. The biggest difference is that it doesn't generate random maps/dungeons like Diablo does. That doesn't make it worse, but it does affect its replay value.
