best monitor for $400-$500

I bought a NEC MultiSync FP1350X from dell for $440 and its great. 1600x1200 at 85 hz is nice and even higher refresh rates at lower resolutions.

I would recommend the Samsung 900NF. It can be had for $338 here (shipping will bring it to about $380). Although I've never bought anything from them, Techon has great reviews on Pricegrabber.

And if you really wanted to save a few bucks...I'd go with the Optiquest q95. I've got one in the house and it's great for the price! Only $200 from the good folks at Techron (again about $40 for shipping).

LG monitors are nice but for price/performance IIyama-bar none. Currently own an Visionmaster 511(22"), Visionmaster 454(19") and Samsung syncMaster 770 TFT. The visionmasters are brighter and clearer than the Samsung in all 4 corners. Computermart has the 22" for $650(shipped) and 19" for $435(shipped).

I've got the Iiyama 510 which is an older model but still the 22". Got it for around the same price.

It's an excellent monitor, damn heavy though.

You may laugh at this, but Costco has some of the best monitor buys I have ever seen, and they accept all returns no questions asked, after almost any period of time. Not only that, but all returns are cash refunds, regardless if you payed by credit card or cash. That is hard to beat. They have a gorgeous 19" sylvania flat screen CRT for $269, and a sylvania 17" flat panel LCD for $529. I bought one of their monitors (17" CRT, $159) for my wife and it is spectacular.

I will sell you a 21" compaq p1100 for 450 dollars. Its about 2 years old, and still under warranty. I have 2 now, and I need more desk space. I am keeping the one because I absolutely love it. PM if you are interested.

Its a fd trinitron thats got dual input and a usb hub built in, does 1600x1200 at 85 hz, and does higher, just not at 85 hz, btw.
