BEST MOTHERBOARD FOR VIDEO EDITING

Whats the budget and what do you mean by video editing? Like a LOT of it or juts some stuff for fun?

well basically i would like the best value, not the top of the line but near, my uncle was given a 5000 dollar estimate on one and id like to get it down around 2 grand.

Is the 2G for the computer or for the computer and monitor?

If just for the system I would go with....

yep, he's already got a 23" sony widescreen. Is there a benefit to goin with an opteron as opposed to a barton processor in this case? What about the Athlon 64's? Anyone suggest going with a Pentium in this case? The only gripe I have with AMD is heat issues but maybe i should just invest in a good heatsink. Personally I was thinking bout gettin an Nforce 3 board.

Actually AMD runs cooler then Intel now. I went from a P4 setup to a Athlon64 system.

And the reason I said Opterons is dual CPU's will help for video editing AND the Opterons have SSE2 and ondie memory controllers. All of which the Barton does not have. Let alone the fact that the Socket A chips are pretty much done and there is more newwer and faster CPU's coming in the opteron family.

And if he keeps the system more then a year the 64bit Windows OS will be out, or he can use 64bit Linux now.

Correct. It will run 32 bit and/or 64bit

The opteron is a server version of the Athlon64. So the opteron line will come out with faster chips and the system can be upgraded. And when 64bit windows comes out all you will need to do is make sure you have 64bit drivers and again you will be ready for it.
