All personal preference, yeah there is faster dpi and stuff, but what it comes down to is how it fits on your hand and wether or not it studders. Me, I like the logitech g5, but a lot of people like the logitech mx518 and the razor copperhead, the g7 is the same thing as the g5 just wireless. I suggest going into a retail store and checking one out.

There is no best. You should go to Circuit City, Best Buy, or another retailer to fondle all of their mice. I am extremely picky about my rodents and recently went with a MX518 for $40

That's mine, and I love it! Button on top of scroll wheel makes it easy to change speed...awesome for when you're in a game.

I read the G7 really goes through batteries...I went for the mx1000 instead and I've been very satisfied.

I am fond of my g5 personally. Any of the premium mice coming from Logitech or Razer will work just fine; it's just a matter of what fits your hand best. Whatever you do, try them out at the store first.

I've used a Razer Diamondback and a Logitech G5. Both are very nice. I played very well with the Razer and I could rail (close and long range) like crazy. With the G5, it took me a week or so of playing to get decent with it, but I could rocket like a champ with it. Railing with the G5 is OK - mostly longer range. Thing I dislike about the G5 is the stupid left/right tilt scroll wheel. I don't know what Logitech was thinking, but I don't like it. If you click it down (which I use to switch weapons sometimes, although I've had to revert to the F key for that), sometimes it will think you also scrolled up or down which effectively screws up your click down to switch to the next weapon.

I play mostly Quake 3 and UT2004. I would like to try the Razer Copperhead but I don't have an extra $40-60 or so. Would also like to try an MX518, because I loved my MX510 before the left click stopped working =(

I don't understand why the G5 is at all better than the MX518. I find the MX518 more comfortable, and the texture is nicer to hold.

The Razer mouses are definitely very nice as far as hardware specs go, but I can't stand the feel of them. They're very flat, it's hard to find somewhere to put your pinkey. The scroll wheel is also very sticky and hard to move (which could be good or bad, I personally don't like it).

My vote: MX518.

The g5 is laser as opposed to optical... though the dpi are similar the g5 has 2000dpi and the mx518 has 1600dpi. The g5 also adds movable weights.

Ah, I thought the MX518 was a laser, also. My mistake.

Either way, I garuntee you aren't going to notice the 400 DPI difference between the 518 and the G5. And again, this is just personal opinion, but I like to play with my mouse as light as possible. You can take the weight out of the 518 by simply unscrewing the mouse and taking it out. With no weights in either, they're probably about the same weight. IMO, better texture of the 518 + lower price > G5's 400 more DPI.

For me, the G7 is completely out of the question. I hate corless mice. Even if I could find a perfect one with great response time and long battery life, it's still not going to feel as light as a corded mouse because of the batteries. I can't stand em just for that.

Have you tried the G7? It's pretty dang light because of the type of battery it uses, and there is absolutely no lag. The ONLY thing that may concern you is the battery life. I'd say mine gets a days worth of usage, but the battery is hot swappable with a spare battery always being charged.

No I haven't tried it, I just assumed it used a pair of AA batteries (or something of the like) such as most other mouses do. I'd definitely check it out if it weren't so darn expensive. Definitely sounds like a good mouse, though.

Man, you should have gotten in on the deal awhile ago. I got mine for $19 shipped.

I've got some googling to do. I've never heard about removing any weight from a mx518. Could you clarify what you unscrewed?

edit: Nevermind, I wasn't thinking clearly. You unscrew the screws. Novel idea.

they should make the mx518 wireless. That way, when you play on a projector you can play from afar

well thats why it has 2 right?

the g7 is superior to the mx1000 for gaming. the mx1000 is just lousy at that, its extra buttons are all setup wrong, the ones flaking the wheel and the thumb buttons are a one piece chunk of plastic on a see saw hinge, they have to move quite a bit, its not a clean quick snappy movement/repsonse. theres a freakin extra button in the mdidle of the thumb button and that just bad for fast button response too, ur likely to just hit too mnay at once. the mx7xx/5xx/gx series mouse shape was just superior, even the trigger button feels better on those. i have the mx1000 and its battery does basically last forever, even after gaming a couple hours i never see the battery bar move its not horrible, but its a lousy mouse when compared to a g7.

oh, I thought only the G5's had that, guess not. I got a Logitech G5, awesome mouse, I've used the Razor Diamondback, I still prefer a G5.
