Just wondering if there are better mp3 players then the iPod or the Sony Walkman. I don't mind getting them but I like to keep my options open and try to get the best product. So, if you all know of any other ones or better yet a mp3 player review site (ones I've found through google arent very trustworthy).

thanks.

From experience, the Dell DJ and the iRiver H120 (or H140) are great MP3 players. The only advantage that Apple has over them is that there is an "image" that comes with owning one.

Rio Karma 20GB gets pretty good reviews. I think they had a good one from Maximum PC, amongst other mags...
It plays MP3, OGG, and FLAC.. comes with a cradle and has good battery life.

I have one and like it alot.

I have the Neuros HD 20GB (USB1.1) player and love it! You should also check out the forums there for more info. The community, though small, is very good as well as the support of the company.

EDIT: You may not like it's size, it's quite a large player; however, it does fit nicely in your hand.

That looks really sweet, I am looking for something to replace my old POS Rio800

I have the 40 GB Creative Nomad Zen Xtra for use in my car and with my home stereo. Its not as small as the iPod, but I find that it is much better. My friends iPod crashes a lot when he's trying to load up the queue. My Zen has not once crashed. The battery life on my Zen is much better, too.

Sentinel, like I said above the player is great even though I have the old one. I don't know if you looked over the feature list of it. If you haven't, then go look up HiSi and MyFi on the website and check out the forums there. You can ask people about there opinion of the player and you'll get a reasonably unbiased response (there'll always be some bias though).

anyone have any experience with the iriver H320? I saw a deal for it on bens'... 20gb for 280 after a coupon plus it supports video/picture viewing.

In my experience, the iPod is the absolute best MP3 player you can get with regards to quality. You WON'T be dissapointed with the iPod, while you may be dissapointed with other players. If I had to recommend an alternative, though, I'd go with the Creative Zen Touch.

I personally have a new 4G 20gig iPod that I love. I would recomend it over pretty much anything else just for ease of use. I haven't seen the new sony yet, but I've used the creative and dell model mentioned above. The iPod is quite a bit nicer IMHO... especially in build quality. Also, apple's iTunes is by far the best media player/way to sync your mp3's that I've come across. Before I purchased the iPod I had a sony MD walkman, which although build wise was very nice, software support was below crappy... On my reasonably fast PC the sony software was slow and clunky at best. In addition to that I had to convert all my mp3s and wmas to their atrac format, which IMHO sucked big time.

i think they're changing or have changed the new 20gb walkman to actually support mp3 now instead of converting to atrac.

I think you may be right about sony allowing the new 20gb player to play mp3s ... i remember reading that somewhere. I wouldn't even consider it if you had to use their junky program to update it though... forget what it was called...

Has anyone had experience with the JetAudio iAudio M3 20gig hd player? The lack of a screen on the player worries me but it has more features than your average player and decent battery life. At this point though anything is an improvement over my very old cd player so I'm not too picky.

Creative Zen Xtra. I got my 40gig for about $220. Works perfectly. If that isn't enough storage for you, The drive can be switched with a higher capacity 2.5" laptop drive. People have put 80 gig drives in them, reloaded the software, and it works flawlessly.

You can look into the Arhos MP3 players as well, they are a bit pricey but they pretty much pioneered the A/V MP3 player. I got my 20GB Jukebox Multimedia 2.5 years ago for $250 and it plays avi, jpeg, and there is an attachement for recording video. Mine just died and though it was not the best on battery life (6 hours max ) they new ones are much much better. The 80GB AV model is awesome, though it is around $700...
