I have a early 1700+ and I've gotten it to 1.6 GHz but it crashes within a few hours, like 4. I didn't bump the voltage up any though. This is using a Thermalright SLK-800. I don't think you're going to get a 1700+ up to 1.8 GHz even with watercooling, but I'm no expert. I haven't heard anyone compliment the 1700+'s for their extreme overclockability. I have a 1600+ Agoia that is running at 1.57 GHz and is stable. The Agoia core XP 1600+'s are supposed to overclock very well. I can tell you the best heatsink and fan combination for overclocking though, but as I said earlier, I'm not sure if it will get you as high as you want. The Swiftec MCX462+ and the SLK-800 or 900 with a Vantec Tornado would probably be the best combination. For a more reasonable option though get a SLK-800 with a moderate fan, not some 7k+ rpm fan like the Tornado.

Overclocking will mostly depend on whether it is a palomino, t-bred a, or t-bred b.

As far as hs/f goes, I agree with jarsoffart that the SLK-800 or MCX462+, or possibly the SK-7 are your best bets. Thermalright AX-7 is good also. And don't forget the Alpha 8045. As far as fan goes, Vantec tornado 84cfm or Delta 80cfm are your best choices, but they are EXTREMELY LOUD. Also, get yourself some good case cooling.

Yes, the Thermalright SLK-900 is the new badboy, though expensive at about $55 anywhere I see it. the performance increase of an SLK-900 over an SLK-800 or SLK-800a (which has 4 more fins than the regular 800, so don't pay too much of a premium for it) is probably not worth the extra $15 to $25, IMO.

Do you know if you have a Palomino (possibly an AGOIA stepping?), a T-Bred A or a T-Bred B?
You can post the serial number on the core if you don't know or if you're not sure how to tell.
