ooo, toughy choices (with the exception of nirvana and linkin park), had to go with beatles though. they are too influential and the fact they still have #1 albums and have hundreds upon hundreds of great tracks, a lot of them didnt even see the light of day until recently.

if we are talking about modern rock bands within the past couple years.... have to go with rage against the machine. their albums were released every few years, and were always highly anticipated. they had all the perfect elements, hip hop, rock, political agendas and messages strewn thoroughout the lyrics that at the same time were provacative and made you think and could relate back to the listener. i had die hard metal-head fans that would listen to ratm, because they just rocked that heavy. even before tool blew up and became popular, they got maynard james keenan to do back-up vocals on a track off their first album. and their concerts and performances were crazy and energetic.

If you leave out the beatles, then Zeppelin has sold more albums than ALL those other bands combined.

As for talent, I would say Dream Theater is the greatest rock band. For timeless listenability, definitely Zepplin.

Linking Park has nothing to do with rock, and very little with music at all, it should get it's own category called "MTV Whore rock" or something.
Metallica is spelled wrong.
Iron Maiden isn't even on the list.
No Manowar.
No Savatage, no Megadeth, and no Helloween, but Beatles is there(no they're not bad, but they're not rock either).

im sorry.. but how the FSCK does LINKIN PARK get on there, but i see no SOUNDGARDEN!!!! cornell has at least the talent of everyone in the modern music scene put together.. and thats probably not giving him enough credit. from the list.. i'd probably have to go with zeppelin and pearl jam. temple of the dog also rocks (combo of pearl jam and soundgarden)

i disagree.

The poll is BEST ROCK BAND, not BAND that meets Sunners definition of what rock is.

btw, one could just as easily say that led zepplin doesn't belong in the same poll as the Beatles. either way it misses the point.

No, Im not talking about my definition, Im talking about time periods, just cause someone once may have considdered Mozart rock doesn't mean he belongs in a poll alongside Metallica, etc.
Same with the beatles, too different timeperiods.

I've just gone through most of Led Zeppelin's material, they're overrated IMO... But what do I know? I'm not the biggest rock fan in the world. But I do like listening to what people deem as classic or must listens.
