Beatles did lots of stuff before other groups. They are unequivically the most influential band of the last century.

For christs sake they have been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame and have one of the best all time selling albums, Back In Black.

Sorry... I guess bands that last for 40 years and still produce outstanding music and put on great live concerts shouldn't be considered great bands. I know... how about Linkin Park!

HTF can anybody rate any of those groups higher than Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd or The Beatles?

Arguably, the Kinks, Dire Straits or Lynard Skynard might edge one of them out, but they aren't listed.

Greatest? Beatles or Zeppelin are of course most influential and pioneers, but as for personal preference, Metallica took rock/metal and honed it to perfection... at least up through the Black album.
