The name of thread is best smartphone 2014 and Apple already won. Most phones sold? Iphone. Best reviewed? Iphone.
The only question is which do you guys think is best, 6 or 6+?
I'd buy an iphone if it wasn't for the awful battery life and buggy software.
IMO the most interesting phone for most users this year should be the Z3 Compact. High quality construction, top quality internals, IP certified, 3 day battery life. It's hard for me to imagine a phone you can use heavily and not need to charge nightly. People using it "lightly" are getting ridiculous usage - like dumbphone life.
The multi-tasking features and screen of the Note 4 make it a very interesting choice as well, though a phablet isn't going to be for most people. It's the first phone I think has multi-tasking built into it so deeply that it's actually useful on a daily basis.
The battery life certainly isn't on the level of the One maxx, but let's be real you are using it to play games. You can't expect to play games all day and never charge.
The software comment is blatantly false, have you ever used an iPhone? iOS is universally regarded as a much faster, less buggy OS. How often does your phone get viruses? It probably has a few now if you are on android.
I have a Moto X, i have no problems with it. I've never gotten viruses. My wife has an Iphone 5, and ios 8 has been an absolute disaster.
As for battery life, i'd rather have something like a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, a normal size phone with monster battery life, compared to the pitiful 6/6+ battery life:
If battery life is your thing, then by all means go android. You will never get that kind of battery life on iPhone, apple simply doesn't think it's necessary.
Making a good phone is about tradeoffs, and I think Apple is doing the best job of this. Yes there are individual android phones that each have better screen, better battery, more ram, but they are each different phones and they each make sacrifices in design elsewhere.
IMO, apple made one of the worst tradeoffs to battery life: Thinness at all costs. My friends complain that the 6/6+ is so thin, it slips out of their hands really easily. That, and for the 6+, it's really fragile. Making the iphone 6/6+ thicker would have been smarter in a multitude of ways: longer battery, more sturdy, and less likely to slip out of your hand.
That's odd, my friends and family say the opposite. None of us bought the plus tho. The 6 is a marvel of design and I think Apple have found the perfect thickness.
Battery life is already more than enough on my 5s.... Well I mean it's adequate. It will give me 12-16hrs a day no issue.
The 6 also doesn't throttle! In 3dmark after running for 20 minutes every android phone is down to 10fps, while the iPhone 6 plus hasn't lost any performance!!
That pretty amazing, and it's something no other smartphone manufacturer is even attempting. ZERO throttling means it runs full speed all the time.
I'll admit apple could improve battery life but really i am glad they have made it to 6mm. That is perfect for me and my pockets eight a 4.7 screen
I would just responding to this guy personally. He's a rabid manufacturer fan. No amount of carefully laid out arguments or numbers will correct his anecdotal evidence "friends and family say x". People like this are so anti-consumer it makes me shake my head.
You haven't made a single argument! Your ad hominem attacks are not appreciated.
Go home, read a book, and come back when you have an idea that doesn't suck, until then I suggest people ignore you as you have nothing to contribute here beyond insults and whining.
If anyone should read something I need to recommend something to you: the original post.
Read through it. Comprehend the options the OP wanted clarification about. He mentioned 4 or 5 Android sets he was interest in and he was seeking advice towards one of them. Whatever disagreements you and I may have it doesn't belong in this thread. OP is not considering an 800$ apple phone and I think that's the end of discussion. No need for me to cite better screens, open operating system, better battery life, SD cards, removable batteries, better prices, better durability, connectivity, or any of the other multitude of benefits that modern Android devices offers over Apple products.
Read the thread title. I'm sorry you only wanted to talk about your favorite phone that nobody has heard of or cares about but other people can post too.
Yes yes SD cards and batteries, the many "benefits" of android and the reason your handsets are, apart from HTC, resemble plastic kiddie toys. I'm sorry but I like my phone to be sleek, functional, secure, and attractive. Android boasts one of those four features, and even that's debatable: Functionality.
You can't run Apps from SD cards! So that not real memory and is not a substitute. And I you design a phone to use the display it has well, you won't need 3 4200mAH batteries!
Nexus 5 isn't sleek? How's this for vague anecdotal citation, I've had more iPhone owners than anyone ask me what kind of phone my Nexus is and they awe all over it. Sony Z3 isn't sleek? It's waterproof, sleek AND has double the battery life of an iPhone 6.
I can match you're arguments with quantitative data but who in the world in their right mind is gonna sit on a forum and argue terms like "functional and secure? That's just pure flame bait. If I was discussing this platform issue with someone that was open minded I would have zero qualms with admitting the many things iphones have and continue to do well. There's a reason I bought an iPhone 4 over the Samsung galaxy 1. It was just a better phone. However, technology and competition marches on and the field is populated with many viable alternatives. Thus, I bought an HTC One x over an iPhone 4s because it was a much better phone.
It's funny you bring up memory though. This is just too easy. A 600$ iPad air or a 800$ iPhone 6+ can't even hold Web pages in their memory because they have 1 Gigabyte of memory IN 2014. So every. Single. Time. You minimize your browser and go back to multiple tabs it will reload them if you have other apps open. I've seen my friends reopen their fantasy football apps on their iPhone 6 and it has to refresh the data everytime. When I reopen MY espn app the screen is exactly as I left it.
SD cards allow for music and video storage. That's why people that are technically inclined call hard drives and SD cards "storage" and not memory. Memory.. RAM.. random access memory. Remember my example of brand new iphones having half or less memory than new androids? Yeah THAT is memory.
I mean, that and the fact that you use the phrase "plastic kiddie toys. Ridiculous man.
I rooted my phone and installed a custom kernel that overdrives the headphone amp on my Nexus 5 because I like really, really loud music. No stock phone out there is loud enough for me. I couldn't do that on an iPhone. I can't side load apps on an iPhone. I can't load raw data like music folders or documents onto an iPhone without having to slug it out through iTunes. I can't change my keyboard on an iPhone. Oh wait you are just now able to do that.
None of that changes the fact that despite a vague thread title, OP never asked for it hone recommendations so you hiding behind the fact that the thread title just days smart phone implies you again have refused to read his actual post.
The Z3 is pretty much the only android phone that I'd consider sleek. They are all >7 mm and they all weigh more than 140g.
Android phones are actually regressing into heavier, thicker, uglier phones. The GS4 was way more sleek than the GS5, the M8 is worse than M7.
You are the exact problem with android: people who obsess about one aspect of design at the expense of all others. Android users are so easy because all you have to do to win them over is have the biggest HD screen, biggest battery, fastest benchmarks. Apple can't get away with that kind of laziness, and apple customers are much more discerning. We don't care how many megapixels or Ghz as long as it's faster in real life. And iPhones are faster.
Once Google realizes that there is no money in catering to their current clientele, you will see them do exactly what windows did: copy Mac OS
I am "all that's wrong with Android buyers" Haha.. This one is going under saved posts. It's literally gold. You claimed I made an ad hominen and argument then you resort to the same thing. So we have established that you are a hypocrite.
Why did you ignore my statements about iphones lacking memory?
Did you really just bring up Mac OS vs Windows? And anything thicker than 7mm is big? Jesus buddy. Get a grip. I'm done here.
I just adressed the memory! And it's not an ad hominem if I'm using you as the example of what's wrong with android, as it's true. You are obsessed with specs.
Glad you realized you were losing this debate. Wasn't gonna get any better for you.
Please humor me, and point out where you addressed the memory issue?
Did you mean the issue with safari tabs? Because nobody even knows if that is a result of low memory. It may just be a bug in safari. And read my edit i addressed the myth of android storage and the false hope of the SD card.
I stated that mine and others use case for an SD card is media and data storage. I've never even come close to filling the internal 32gb with apps.
Now this is interesting, i recall that you stated "functional" as a core tenant in the value hierarchy for your iPhone allegiance. Seems like safari is not that functional.
But that's just to show that your point is irrelevant. I gave you other examples like the ESPN app. It's all over, after the operating system and GPU shared ram, 1gb is not nearly enough for HD class devices. I should know because my HTC one x had 1gb and it did the EXACT SAME THINGS. So bug or memory limitation Web browsing is broken on iPhone and multitasking will not truly work until apple decodes to make 10 dollars less and add more RAM to its devices.
I personally don't need 20 safari tabs on my 4" screen but maybe others have the ability to do more than 7 things at once. This is what I'm talking about: you see "after I load 12 safari tabs or more they have to reload sometimes" and turn it into "safari doesn't function"
I agree apple should've put 2GB. They def screwed that up, but I'm ok with 1GB.
Chrome doesn't do this btw, on iOS. Does that mean that there is no memory issue?
Edit: btw I find it hilarious that suddenly 32GB is so much you've "never been close" to filling it. I can easily fill 32GB with apps, I think I have close to 24 now. You just don't buy a lot of apps because You're an android user. You don't pay for jack hence you get jack.
All versions of iOS require ALL apps to use Safari's WebKit engine. Alternate browsers are merely wrappers around the same kit that Safari uses. Chrome is just a different skin basically.
Iphones are hard RAM limited and will be until you and people like you shell out another $600 next fall to get what Android users have had for a long time now.
I think this is getting worse for you.
