To anyone reading this and getting ready to reply: please notice that this thread was decided four days ago when OP bought a G3. Somehow yesterday someone successfully trolled with some bait posts and received some responses.

Come on guys, you know not to feed these things.

Wow Troll comes out, to call people trolls?

Do you have anything to contribute to the convo apart from obvious lack of reading comprehension?

Howso? All you've done is demonstrate your habit of fixation on one aspect of the design and geeking out on it.

You've proved my point perfectly, do you really not understand that I never even knew that issue existed until I read it here. I have yet to even encounter the "issue"

Unlike iphone, androids issues are much much deeper than a lack of RAM. Your operating system needs to be secured first and foremost. It's unsafe.

I do not debate vague generalities like you seem content to. I chose to highlight a quantifiable issue and that issue was not enough memory to use more than 1 app on iphones.

Now that issue is settled. I'm happy to move on. I've highlighted other platform strengths of Android already. Superior screens, battery life and hot swappable batteries - - which is huge for people that have professional lives and a social life at night.

The only reason you haven't "encountered this issue" (which you already stated you did with a certain amount of tabs open) is because you've never ever used a phone that doesn't have that limitation. I didn't realize what it was like having my app stay open in memory to go back to until I got a phone with enough RAM.

Please backup your statement about Android security. The most secure phones in the world use Android.

I am the first person to contribute to this thread, scroll all the way up.

Now how about you? Have you contributed at all to OP's question?

I think I've educated a lot of hearts and minds. OPs question is thread title, just because you disagree with my (obviously correct) assessment of best 2014 smartphone doesn't mean you can come i here and call me names!

I prefer iPhone 6 Plus, it is the best phone according to your demand.

I'm just hesitant about the size. It's HUGE!

The camera is amazing, if I had kids I'd def go plus.

I'm sticking with the 5S because I'm hoping for 2GB ram. I agree with swilli about that.

Yeah sorry about that. I figured the dude was a shill but got caught trying to reason with him anyways. Glad OP got the G3.. Excellent phone!

Android isn't even allowed in my companies building because of ifs lack of security. Businesses overwhelmingly use ios because if actually works. Your anecdotal account of android being secure is pretty much totally ridiculous considering how many huge issues android has with security. You are the only mobile OS with malware. 99% of mobile viruses are written for android. Gazelle pretty much tells you that ios is more secure.
https://www.gazelle.com/thehorn/2014/03/17/android-vs-ios-which-one-will-keep-you-more-secure/

At this point your arguments have drifted into the absurd. Yes android has huge batteries and big screens, but what else?

Apple pay? No
Quality fingerprint scanner? No
Integration of mobile and desktop? No
Air drop? No
Thin? No
Light? No
Good looking? Def NO
Reversible lighting cable? No
Metal frame? No
128Gb? No
64 bit? No
IPC close to haswell? No
I could go on... And on

So if I were to sacrifice all of that for a phone that runs longer, I'd be what? Cool? You obviously play too many games, nobody who has a life uses their phone that much. I'm not a child and I am physically active. I work in the defense industry so we might have a different view of security than people who don't have clearance. Ask somebody who works at Northrop or Lockheed if they can bring android phones to work. If they work in el segundo, they can't

OP, I suggest you return the G3 immediatly!! The GPU can't support QHD and its reviewed waaay poorer than the iPhone 6

You still have 27 days to return if OP!

I think I've educated a lot of hearts and minds. OPs question is thread title, just because you disagree with my (obviously correct) assessment of best 2014 smartphone doesn't mean you can come i here and call me names!

The problem is, OP's question is not simply the thread title. As a summary: he was trying to decide between the G3, S5, and Z3, and asked if there are any other higher-end specced phones from 2014 out there that he might be interested in. And yes, some people already mentioned the iPhone 6 and 6+, and guess what, the OP didn't even acknowledge them at all. Maybe because he's not interested? Regardless, he decided to get the G3 and seemed to be happy with it. The end.

That was me helping you summarizing the thread, because apparently it was you who are having a problem in reading comprehension, or maybe you just never bothered to read the thread and just simply read the topic, skim through and got hot because the iPhone isn't even in consideration, and started typing. But now you know what this thread is *really* about. You're welcome!

Now, if it wasn't clear to you, I wasn't calling you out because of your list (which I admit is a little weird because there are phones clearly not from 2014 there, but hey, it's your list), but what you did before that. There was zero reason to bring Android vs iPhone to this thread. People were having a regular discussion, until suddenly you came in here and drop your bait. This is what I consider a classic troll bait. So I just called it as I see it.

You are picking the best time to troll though, so until the mods come in and clean things up tomorrow, have fun!

I am not trolling at all, merely educating people who may not have access to the info I have!

I don't think OP knows how bad the G3 is in person and how good the 6 is.

G3 has a better screen for sure, but adreno 330 won't cut it for QHD. Adreno 420 barely cuts if in the note 4, which is a far superior phone IMO

Edit: you'll notice I put "2014"
Instead of 2014

You could buy all those phones from a carrier in 2014

iOS is far better than android at handling memory. 1GB in the 5s will be more useful than 3GB in the note 4.

You were doing pretty good. You almost convinced me. Problem is even the biggest Apple fanboys can admit 1gb of ram is crap in 2014. There is a reason people are flipping out about the iPad maybe having having 2gb. No matter how you spin it all these 1gb iOS devices aren't good enough for anyone that actually pushes a computer.

I can easily make that 3GB ram more useful-just load up tabs in the browser. Of course I am sure using more than one tab in a browser is just something us dumb Android people do. Apple can load that one tab better than anyone, no one ever needs more than that!!!

Looks like you didn't read my posts.
I agree apple should've put 2GB. They def screwed that up, but I'm ok with 1GB.

We can play benchmarks if you want.

Really?

Where can I buy that Korean LTE-A device ? Korea?

Funny android has to go around the world to find benchmarks you don't lose at. Would you like me to start quoting G3 vs Iphone 6 GPU benchmarks? Or any single thread or browser benchmark?

This could get ugly for you guys... Android hasn't won the benchmark war overall since like 2012.

That's my phone, from my carrier EE (although I bought it contract free), in my country (the UK).

Why would you quote a G3 benchmark at me? Neither of us has a G3.

It's won the one I posted, the one that you brought up first.

Could you run sun spider and get back to us? Then run Kraken and Octane, and we will average those THREE benchmarks and see which is faster, the 2013 iPhone 5s or your 2014 S5 that they only sell on obscure islands

The OP chose the G3. This is the problem with you android guys, you cant decide which phone to use because they all have HUGE weaknesses.

Those are all javascript browser benchmarks aren't they? That seems like a bit of a one dimensional way to pick the fastest phone.
You picked 3dmark earlier, why don't you like it now?
Oh and the exact same phone as mine is available across Europe and a very similar one is available in Asia. Its not my fault that your country is behind the times.

You know that almost looks like you going out of your way to pick hardware that supports your view. I'm picking the phone I have in my hand and comparing it to the one you're claiming is the best.

Well when you pick one benchmark, lose in that, then swiftly move on to the next one it makes you look desperate.

It's amusing the flip flop from a couple years ago when Android fans were benchmark riders and now its Apple fans. The truth is now that SOCs are so powerful, 98% of what most users do with their phones have no discernible difference. Even in gaming, we'll have to compare the on-screen results of S805 1080p phones (not the 2 Samsung QHD phoens) to see if there really is much difference since off-screen results are very close according to Anandtech's review.

I will say now is the time to get an iPhone if you've been considering one. It's the start of a 2 year cycle and the design and display are all-new. For better or for worse, it's mostly the phone that will be for sale 22 months from now.

My S805 1080p phone is so overpowered for what I use it for. Battery life is pretty good though so I don't really mind the excessive hardware.

Yeah I wish your market 1080p version had been fully benchmarked. The S5 LTE-A version tested by Anandtech is QHD and off-screen benches surprisingly close to the iPhone 6. I do expect on-screen performance to be competitive to the 6 Plus, but not up to the 6 due to the much lower resolution.

It would have been interesting to see an S805 Z3 Compact but alas.

If you want any done I'll be off work later in the week, there's a couple of benchmarks in a thread here as well.
