wear a freakin helmet!!! Some friends and me made a trip up to Wolfcreek, CO and went snowboarding. The first day out, a little bit after lunch I was cutting down the mountain on my toe side edge and my heel side edge caught and flung me smack on the back of my head. I'm pretty sure I had a minor concussion and now realize why everyone wears helmets. Had a great time though, but was a little more timid the next day out .

it's funny, i started wearing a helmet about 5 years ago. I would never ski or board without it. but growing up, i skiied for about ten years and never wore one, nor saw anyone with one (early to mid-90's).

Apparently no one back then cared much!

Ya, the last time I went boarding was about 6 years ago and no one wore one. It was completely different this time around.....EVERYONE had a helmet on and I was even asked by a local "So.....why don't you wear a helmet?". Kinda crazy......

Yeah, I've caught an edge before and slammed my head. That sucks big time. I've never worn a helmet though, and usually tend to ride freestyle and hit tabletops and rails and whatnot. But I don't recall hitting my head doing tricks actually, just a few times where I've caught an edge.

Oh, come on. That is a poor example. You can't swing a cat without killing a Kennedy.

Helmets == children with worry wart parents.

Sounds like you were riding past your skill level. If you want to look like a dope then by all means wear a helmet. Do you also have to wear one in every day life?

Some of us are grown up enough to not care how we look when we are snowboarding.
If you just wanna look good go sit in the lodge by the fire with some cocoa so your hair doesn't get messed up.

I've never worn a helmet in my dozen or so years of snowboarding purely cause I don't want some clunky thing on my head when I'm flying around the mountain. But now that I think about it that is pretty stupid. I need to get one. At the very least for the icy days when falling on your head is like bouncing your skull off concrete.

Some things are beyond our control. You obviously have never played sports, driven a motorcycle, gone mountain biking, ride a bike in traffic/city, etc.

If wearing a helmet makes you a dope then I guess 95% of the people at Wolfcreek are dopes then.

Ive worn a helmet for about 4 years now. After my first really hard fall that knocked me out for like 10 seconds, it was a wake up call.

One of my coworkers' friend was an experienced snowboarder. One fall without a helmet and he had to get airlifted off the mountain.

Wolf Creek is great, I live 45 minutes from there. I always hear "You shouldn't have to wear a helmet there due to the massive amount of snow we get.." but its still a good idea on groomers and tree skiing over in the waterfall area. I don't wear a helmet usually, i probably should. The last accident I had skiing (last week) was I cased a landing in the park and tore a calf muscle... head was never even bumped...

Wear helmets kids!

ps. On the poster who said skiing ftw... it doesn't matter what your doing.. you can fall and bust a head just as easily no matter what equipment you are on. My folks are ski patrollers (summit county) and they've seen all sorts of accidents (mainly wrists with snowboarders and knees with skiers).

You don't get flung back on your head while skiing. I can't be held accountable for someone skiing into a tree and I don't know that a helmet would have helped in that situation either.

The snow was great but it had been packed pretty good since there were a lot of people on the mountain since it was President's Day weekend. That was my first time at Wolfcreek and loved it. Plan to make another trip before it closes down.

Yeah man, make it on out. Its getting cloudy right now and we are expecting more snow... quite frankly.. I'm tired of it. Had to shovel 5+ feet off my roof and now I cant see out my windows, get into my shed or even see one of my vehicles. Its been this way for 2 months.

Summer in Southwest Colorado ftw!

My boss just came back from a ski trip (Utah) where he cartwheeled down the hill and split his helmet almost in half... imagine if it was his head...

I have a helmet that a wear when I know I'll be doing stupid things. Otherwise, most of my falls don't involve hitting my head.
