Hello all. I'd like to really push my Athlon XP Barton 2500+ as far as it can go with air cooling, and I'm not sure which heatsink/fan I should get. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

If you have the money go with the SP-97 cooler which is without a doubt the best air cooler when coupled with a good panaflo fan.
If you dont want that one zip on over to SVC and get a SLK-947U heatsink which is an unbelievably good buy for 20$ whereas at other stores it goes 40 or so.
Also before you order any of those things listed above we need to know what type of M/B you are using. The main reason is whether it has mounting holes or not.

i picked up my SP-97 for $40 + shipping. but then you still need to buy a fan.
if noise isn't a problem, the Volcano 12 is honestly the champ for bang for the buck. however it performes poorly at low RPM, and when the RPM is cranked up,its VERY LOUD. the high grade fan makes up for what the heatsink lacks. you can get it for $30 most anywhere.

The xp-120 is coming out in a couple of weeks, it completly dwarfs the sp-97.

I totally agree with the SLK, but the Vantec AeroFLOW is definitely worth a look also... I believe at about $25..
Almost silent, keeps my 1700+ @ 2.4 around 46-50C loaded..
Arizona summers are hot..

Noise is absolutely not an issue. My case is already loaded with fans--four 80mm fans for intake/outtake, two fans in the power supply, plus the heatsink/fan I already have. Noise doesn't bother me.
So, with the Volcano 12, will I be able to push my Barton 2500+ to 3200+ speeds (400 Mhz FSB)?

You might want to go with Thermalright SLK947U as others have mentioned. The best part is that it fits both AMD sockets and Intel P4 sockets so easier to resell when you upgrade.
You might want to stay away from the XP-120 because of the sheer size that you may not be able to install it and it weights 220g MORE than the SP-94. You can easily damage your motherboard over a period of time (weight stress) especially if the mobo is in a vertical tower.
