Pure heatsink: Probably a tie between PEP66 and Hedgehog bases. Slightly behind would be the FOP bases, the PAL6035, and the Taisol CGK base.

Pure heatsink wise, the PAL6035 is close, but hte PEP66 and a well-made hedgehog are better.

Multi,

Socket-A mb based reviews, those with socket-thermsitors, do not yield accurate, reliable, relative results.

HardOCPs roundup is not an exception to this fact.

I came across a heatsink from Swiftech called MC462

It is an oversize heatsink that has the same format as P4 heatsinks, and fits only in motherboards that have the holes drilled in them for the heatsink - some of the new Socket A motherboards have them. The heatsink has a huge copper base, and I know you only asked about heatsink, but you can attach 80 mm fan to this heatsink (vs. 60 mm for standard heatsinks). The thing is extremely heavy - 560 g, which is more than a pound. I guess the copper base is what makes it weigh so much

The problem with this heatsink is it's price primarily, and also, it appears to be a brand new products, and so far I have not seen any web site review it. The little brother of this heatsink won the shootout on Tom's site, but it was equipped with Delta fan (which I don't particularly care about).

Alpha PAL6035. Good cooling, pretty good price, selection of fans that can fit it, and pretty easy install(for me anyways).

My vote is for the taisol-cgk742. Large easy to install heatsink. Cooling is comparable to hedgehog and globalwin at half the noise level. Inexpensive too!

good...getting lots of opinions..well here's my feeling for now..

alpha'a/hedgehog at the top..closely followed by globalwin and tasol..

seems pretty good..if i get either..im actually thinking about getting a 60mm to 80mm conversion....that way i could get a lil better cooling..and a little less noise.

Golden orb yes!

(im kidding just getting a rise out of mike)

Id go for a Taisol CGK742 with a 80mm fan on it, like that really high output delta fan thats puts out like 80cfm! or something at 53 dB's! If your nutty like that, the 742 has alot fin area 80mm fan would fit pretty nicely on it, and not much loss of airflow flowing over the sides of the sink. The Alpha PEP66 with a 80mm adapter on it would kick ass too, its kinda a toss up between those 2 for me, i don't like the distance the 80mm fan is from the HS using the adapter, loosing some air presure there. There pure size of it is hard to fit anywhere in a midtower unless your on a slocket.

Golden Orbs suck badly. Alpha 6035 is what I have and my temps are really low around 27C ambient is at 23C. I own everyone else's temps. Lian Li owns you

I was a hard core Alpha 6035 man until I just received a well made, already lapped Hedgehog from a guy on the for sale forum. Needless to say, I now have a pet Hedgehog to keep in my box The Alpha 6035 is still a fine cooler, and is now in one of my backup/test systems. The Hedgehog really impressed me though. I have gone through about all of the most popular HSF's, and the Hedgehog is the current winner in my book. Keep in mind, that I got lucky, and received a well made one that was review quality, and already lapped. I have heard that some may not be as well made as others.

What about an Alpha PEP66T modified to have the fan on top and with a quiet Y.S. Tech fan?

Using a PAL-6035/Delta for now, although I've got an assembled PEP-66/Delta/85W peltier rig waiting for me to tear my system apart.....

im beginning to like the alpha's a lot. one of my friends just got the pep66, and it is awesome. it dissipates heat pretty fast.

also, the global win fop 38-1 and teh fop32-1 seem to have a lot of thought put into it. the fins are perfectly aligned to take heat off.

i dont know about the headgehog, haven't tried or seen it personally, but it seems like it's a bad a$$ mofo =)
