Best surge protectors?

Well I've heard good things about APC but I've had more personal experience with TrippLite than APC. I have a TrippLite SMART 1400 UPS that has saved me from losing work along with protecting my computer from multiple brownouts. Frankly I would suggest getting a UPS over a surge protector. UPS' aren't that much more expensive and they're more functional for protection than a surge protector.

Well, the APC unit that was on the servers at my last job must have managed to stop some kind of surge... because I came in early one morning, and while EVERYTHING else from that breaker box was dead, the server, switches, etc., were still chugging along nice and quietly. Well... the stuff that should be quiet was quiet... the APC unit was flashing a warning light, sounding a rather obnoxious siren, etc
