I have a theory about the Japanese. Ever see that episode of seinfeld where George became a genius because he didn't have sex for a long time? Well, I think this symbolizes Japanese culture. The porn is really rather fucked up, pointing to a class of sexually frustrated / repressed people. And they seem to have a lot of free time to devote to honing trivial skills, from rockin' at DDR / guitar hero to eating hot dogs.

Other possiblities:

Either the video is slowed down, or the kid is able to have some memorized pattern figured out.

Ack, I thought I was going to have a seizure watching it towards the end there, where the bleeping noises and the falling blocks started getting ludicrously fast.

If that video's legit, I don't understand how, at that speed, he was be able to pull off the moves where there are overhanging blocks and you have to slide a new block sideways into the space.

What kind of tetris game lets you "Hold" a piece? I feel like that would make the game significantly easier if you can delay a piece (a straight piece, lol) so that it's guaranteed to come once you're ready.

That kid is unbelievably fast nonetheless.

I was gonna call shens... but this is MUCH different than the Tetris most of us (and your parents for you youngsters) are use to. You can apparently move and rotate the pieces BEFORE they fall. Plus if you notice, they slide on the stationary pieces a LOT more than in classic Tetris (later on they fall instantly but they slow down even at the bottom moving side to side you can see them). Also, according to some comments on the video, that particular version of the game also has a more forgiving "random" piece generator. Edit: Actually that may just be the "hold" feature eLiu mentioned.

Still... freaking amazing. Especially when they go invisible. I'm sure this guy could school just about anyone on any version of Tetris.

I'd like to see him do it with real tetris.

no piece hold,

no rotate once its down, locks faster, so less slide. etc.

I remember the point in Dr Mario where I had every combination of left/right/rotates memorized to place a piece wherever I wanted in whatever orientation. Once you're at that point you can just watch your next block and the landing zone and not even look at the current piece.

That's not human

I can't tell for sure, but it seems like he has an analog joystick, so he can control how fast the blocks move from side to side. In real tetris with digital control, it just wouldn't be possible to move the blocks to the side of the screen before they hit the bottom at that speed.
