best tv under $2000?

I am looking for a TV in this price range, right now I am looking at the sony 42we655 (lcd rear projection) and the maxent 42" plasma at bestbuy for $1900 (dont know model number)

any thoughts on those or suggestions on other TVs? CRT projection is out, 150lbs is too many

Sony LCD Projection 42" > Cheap Plasmas. Your comparing a HDTV vs a EDTV. If you really want to hang it on a wall go Plasma, but the Sony will have the better PQ.

i know, the sony will also be slightly more expensive, heavier, and deeper...

for PQ the sony is the obvious choice between those two...

personally, I'd do a high end CRT unless space is an issue. And if space is an issue, you might be better served to save your money for a better livign arrangmenet.

Wait a few more months for the new 1080p low cost DLP from samsung which uses the new xHD3 chips. It will be just a little more than 2000 but it will be worth it.

Yeah, I will eventually do high end CRT but I am currently apartment-living, and i dont want to deal with an enormous TV - just an enormous picture preferrably....

If you want a plasma though get the 37 inch EDTV from Panasonic cheaper than the no name maxent and much better.

You can find the Samsung HL-P4663W online for a little more than 2k, but shipping will take it to ~2300.

about the dumbest thing you can do is buy an EDTV Plasma tv. why buy a TV that is already out dated? EDTV is the biggest marketing gimmick to get people to buy plasmas, waste IMO.

my 50" samsung DLP weighs 77lbs. i would assume that RPTV LCD's also weigh very light (but i'm not sure). go with the sony if you have to. i haven't seen the exact model you are looking at, but the 55" GW4 that I saw in tweeter when i was shopping around was magnificent.

DO NOT GET THE PLASMA! especially that brand! i would recommend the 46" samsung DLP if you can stretch, because the picture on the 50" is incredible and was the favorite of mine when i was shopping around (about 2 months ago, went to about 5 different stores, and am VERY VERY happy).

i personally think both DLP and LCD look better than plasma TV's, but again this is from seeing them in stores only. maybe the stores didn't calibrate the TV's correctly. plasma's always have a little bit of a pixelated look to them.

And just so you know a 42" Plasma will usually weigh more then the Sony LCD Projection the Sony is a mere 72 pounds. CC should have either the 55" or 60" XS on display, mine does.

If you can go up to $2250 shipped, you can get the Toshiba 46" DLP. It has the HD2+ DLP chip which is has a better contrast ratio than the HD3 chip. I got the more expensive 46HM94 which has the built in HD tuners, and cablecard slot. The 46HM84 (at around $2250 shipped) needs a external HD receiver.

It's light (75 lbs) but you will need help putting on a shelf, etc. mainly because of it's size.

Toshiba got it right with this TV.

Not sure of the rules on posting links to vendors, but I mail ordered mine. The price above is from said vendor. I'll come back and post the link if it's not against the rules.

Edit - I see other links above, so....I got my TV from Bugdig.com. Standard disclaimers apply, but I was very pleased with the service and delivery.

Edit again! - I just looked again, and the $2250 price is for the same TV I have! They have really come down since I bought mine just 6 weeks ago!

I'm not sure why you have a weight concern...
Why don't you go with the best tv for under $1900, and pay 2 guys $100 to carry it for you.
(especially if the best tv under $1900 is over 100 lbs)

its weight, and size ... the hassle involved with it all is not appealing to me. I can get someone to help me out, but frankly I dont want to carry a 150lb giant box up any stairs if I dont have to...

anyway, I am off to BestBuy, Circuit City, Myer Emco for the afternoon. thanks for the input from all
