Best Value on a laptop.

Toshiba Satellite® A75-S125 at Office Depot. Not the cheapest lappy out there, but I'm looking for value not cheap crap. This one seem to offer the most bang for the buck for under $1000 (it's got $150 in rebates).

Looked through that thread already, but didn't see anything that even came close to matching the specs of the Toshiba in any of those Dells for anywhere near the price.

Ya the laptop is pretty good, but I wish it had better graphics . I would easily pay the extra 150 bucks for a x600 or x700 or even 9700. Ow ya, where do you get the rebates?

well it has a penteron processor(half pentium half celeron), and not to big of a hard drive. currently best buy has a laptop for $999 that has a A64 3400+ 1gb of ram and a 80gb hard drive and it doesn't use integrated graphics, i'd say that'd be a better deal.

Ya, I saw that but what graphics does it use? Grak I'm getting kileld tryin gto find a good deal on a laptop with at least a x600 GPU thats around 1100!

Yea, but that one is sold out. So we can't really buy it. I found a really great Toshiba at Office Depot A75-S211 for $750 but being sold out it does me no good either.

If money was tight I would pick up a 2 or so year old Thinkpad for $200 to $300. No heavy graphics games, but maybe that is a plus for a school laptop.

Also this looks like a great idea, http://laptop.media.mit.edu/ too bad they seem to be taking the tack of 100% government with no private sales.

I've never owend a gateway. Are they any good? My crappy compaq only lasted 2 years so I guess it couldn't be any worse.

btw, the Tosh at OD for $750 is sold out, doesn't even show on their site now.

What about a $750 off $1899 on a decked out Dell Inspiron 6000???

You can trade more warranty or accident coverage for a little slower processor and customize it however you like. Just keep the price before discount above $1899.

Perhaps you mean the Inspiron 9300?

Anyone have any idea if the 600M is ever going to be replaced? 600M seems like a great compromise for size/weight in a laptop but it doesn't get good reviews.

The rumor is that they're bringing out a 14.1" widescreen replacement for the 600m by the end of this year.

The 600M is very good. My sister has it. Only gripe with it is that the video card sucks!

OP, the "weaker" points of the lappy (for that price are the weight, the video (9000) and the smaller HD (40 GB).

A year ago I paid considerably less for a Dell with a MR9700 vid card that plays all the games I like.

In a forum like this (full of cheapskates) you have to have a pretty decked-out laptop for a grand.
