Best video card under $150?

My 7900GT got sold and I'm in need of another video card to primarily play Battlefield 2(preferably max details at 1280 by 1024). I had the X1950XT in mind, but I've heard that it's very loud and the MIR isn't very good. Any idea what I should get?

From what I've been reading and checking around, the radeon x1950xt 256mb is a pretty good performer, though I think it's about $180 at newegg right now so maybe that really would your best bet. I've read that some think it's loud, others don't, probably a lot to do with personal preference and your setup.

Why did you sell your 7900gt? I play BF2 at max details at 1920x1200 on my 7900gt with no problems. Pickup a used 7950gt.

My 7900GT did the job really well, but technically my brother owned it and he's planning to sell it to somebody which means I won't have a video card in about a month. I might pick up a 7950GT, I'm not sure if I want to spend so much though. Anything that'll run bf2 maxed out, which isn't asking much actually will do the job.

Do you care that much about silence? If not, go for it! Otherwise, keep searching!

Does he have a buyer yet? Just buy it from him then you wont even have to do any work hehe.

Id say just go in the FS/FT section here and pick up a used 7900gt or 7950gt. I just saw a 7900gt for $100 the other day. I bought my 7900gt used on here about a year ago and have been heavily OCing it since.

Yeah he has a buyer already. His friend is building a computer and he offered him the card a while back. I would buy it from him, but his friend is buying it for $150, which is the price I could buy an X1950XT for and the X1950XT is a far better card than the 7900GT.

Heh! Trick question...

If you're talking PCI-E: the X1950 Pro is the best video card < $150! This is assuming you can live without DX10.

If you absolutely must have DX10 support, or if you want full HD decode support, the winner is the 8600 GTS (yes, they're available < $150) albeit a little slower than X1950 Pros...

If you're still running AGP, the GeForce 7600 GT (not GS) is the winner - hands down - but not for long!

AGP X1950 Pros are slipping into the < $150 price range MIR now...

Um...

Any other questions?

Yeah, I forgot to specify this. I don't need DX10 support as the only games I play are Battlefield 2 and Trackmania. I do plan to get the new HL2 games, but I'm pretty sure an X1950XT would handle those games.
edit: $117 for the X1950Pro
I think that I should jump on this instead, it has performance on par with the 7900GT if not better for a really good price.

Well in that case just let it slip to your brothers friend that he can get a better deal online and shouldnt buy the 7900gt hehe, j/k that would be pretty messed up...for your brother at least.

That 1950pro looks good, i doubt it would have any problems with bf2.

I totally forgot that a friend of mine has the X1950Pro, I just remembered that. I'm almost certain he has no problems with BF2, so I think I'm good.

Most 8600GT cards seem unlikely to be great performers for DX 10 games, but in their current price range it's probably not fair to expect all that much for future games. The fact that they even support such features feels more like a sales gimmick to me, but it's possible that new drivers may help things along.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814150238 This 8600GT XFX card appeals to me in that price range for a couple of reasons, one being that I love the cooling design. I hate paying a lot for an otherwise good card only to have a hsf fail way too soon, and it can cost considerably to replace. With a fanless design like this you can install good cheap fans where they'll do the job, and you know the card won't be noisy

the BEST u can get for $150 right now is the x1950xt from newegg. performs great... plays well with AA/AF. do you play with sound/headphones? if yes then buy it and try out the sound, if u don't like it, a zalman vf700/vf900 only cost like $25 and will make it cooler/quieter, allowing you to OC it to XTX speeds

Well I've used 7900GTs and 7800GTs and I've found that as long as I keep my headphones on with music or games and my computer is on the floor I can't hear it at all.

I almost forgot, Crysis is a concern because I really want to play that game. I realize that it's unlikely that either of these cards will run the game maxed out or even close to that, but the X1950XT might be a lot better than the X1950Pro in half a year.
