I'm currently using winamp, but it lacks video hardware acceleration. Other than that it seems great. Then I tried Nero ShowTime. It's nice, but for some reason it's not allowing me to move the video window; it's just stuck in the middle of my screen.

I can't stand Windows Media Player 10.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I like Zoom Player Pro + ffdshow. Plays everything, tons of options, and movies look better than on any other player I've used. Don't know about hardware acceleration but even if it had it, I think it would have to be turned off to use many of ffdshows features.

I currently use Media player 9 and am happy with it. I also use videolan player for hard to play files and ogms. Very rarely I'll use divx player as on some rare ocasions it's the only thing I can get some stuff to play on. Only codec I use is 3ivx.

Another vote for Zoom Player, it's just so customizable. On their website they even tell you how to set up all your codecs properly so that it plays pretty much every video format known.

I use Windows Media Player 10 with window classic skin. FFDshow for codecs and filters.

I occassionally use Videolan and BSplayer. But I probably use WMP >80% of the time.

I just tried that software. It seems nice, but it's not free (30 day trial). I'm surprised noone else has mentionned winamp; it's always been my favorite.

I use WMP 7.0 with the WMP 9 codecs on.

Dvix for my ogm files as I can change the aspect ratio to fit my 23" lcd 16:10

VideoLan for stuff that won't play but most of it will as I have a bunch of codecs that will work in WMP7.

The standard version has no limitations for non-commercial use. It doesn't even have a nag box.

What about DivX?

Many DivX installs include spyware, so I stopped using their products ages ago. Xvid is the codec of choice right now, and installing it allows for DivX playback.

"The Playa" was always very basic when I used it back in the day.

I am not aware of that. I installed it and I don't see any spywares but thanks for letting me know.

this stuff is awesome....except for real audio/video, it'll play anything you throw at it. plus it's got all the codecs built in, so you don't have to worry about having all the codecs. i've found this very useful when i've had to burn videos to send to my parents... it's way easier for them to install vlc and not have to deal with a bunch of codecs. also, i've noticed vlc can play slightly corrupted files which windows media player won't play for nuts (not totally sure about this yet).
