Best virtual PC software

What did you use to get OSX up and running under VMware? I've got a Snow Leopard disc I bought to use to build a hackintosh sitting in my file cabinet, but haven't had time to really get started on it.

I would like to know as well. I read a few tutorials and all of them seem to have 15 steps involved and/or you have to download preconfigured files or hacks which i'm not doing.

Using VirtualBox 3.x with NoGUI Startup (batch file) on my Windows Server. This allows remote access from any PC on my network. So far works great for what I'm using it for. Yes, this was my only experience with Vitural Machines so I'm ignorat to other solutions.

Looks like from this post there is VMware Player, Workstation & Server and I'm not sure what the differences are. I don't want to step on OP's toes so I'll start another thread about VMware once I've done some research.

Workstation kick ass type 2 hypervisor that runs on tops of an operating system. Allows for creation/cloning of virtual machines. Has a cost.
Server: Free, meant to be used on server OS for running VMs that need to be up all the type. It is really crappy, but it is free.

The current version of VMware player can create virtual machines. It doesn't have all of the tools that Workstation does, but it includes the same creation and settings wizards.

Can VMPlayer create images of other PC's (example: my work XP laptop) that I can then bring home and run (in case I need to access files from the laptop and I don't physically have the laptop at home)?

You'd use VMware Converter to make a VM from an existing system:

Thanks. I assume that I can make an VM image (or whatever it's called) of the laptop to something like a USB portable drive, bring it home and then pull it into VMPlayer. Will need to read up on this stuff, lol.
