Battlefield 2 1.03 Update Enters Final QA Pass
That's right, troops. Barring any last minute issues, the 1.03 update is only a few days from release now. We thought this occasion warranted a post covering the major features and fixes coming in 1.03, so settle back and enjoy.


Wake Island 2007
That's right, the 1.03 update bundles the first official map release from EA and DICE. In this case the map is a modern-era update of one of the most popular maps from Battlefield 1942 -- Wake Island. The People's Liberation Army has invaded Wake to threaten American supply lines. In response the US Marine Corps has been dispatched to reclaim the island. Pick a side and fight to win!

New Features
Stats compare - view the extended stats details for any other player in your BFHQ simply by double-clicking on their name on the leader board or using the new search feature!
Server Favorites and History - find your favorite servers that much easier. No more searching for them through the main server list!

Nickname Prefix - Add and change your clan tag to your account name at will. No more creating alternate account names to cover the changes in your competitive lifestyle!
Supply Drop Icons - Supply drops now appear on the main map and within the 3D Map. Find that elusive supply drop much, much quicker!

Points for Destroying Command Objects - players now receive points for destroying the commander's toys. Special Forces players rejoice!

Server Reserved Slots - Server Operators can now set aside slots for their admins to join a full server at any time!

Vehicle Passengers - the names of players in a vehicle with you are now displayed when you enter or change seats.

Countermeasures - a reload bar has been added for vehicle countermeasures. You'll always know now when you can set off that next flare!

Tweaks

Point Farming changes - DICE has implemented functionality that makes it significantly harder to point farm on Ranked Servers.

Mod Support - Mods now work properly with the Dedicated Server! Additionally, the game will automatically switch mods when joining a server that is running a mod you have installed but do not have activated.

Map tweaks - Spawn menu map and Commander maps now scale based on the size of the level being played (16, 32 or 64 players). Mini-map also scales automatically based on the vehicle type you are using (manual changes to zoom levels are remembered as well).

Commander scoring - No more TKs from Artillery!

Vehicle tweaks - No more accidental kills from bumping a friend with your tank (try to avoid hitting him at speed though) and no more struggling uphill in an APC. Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions.

Auto Team Balance tweaks - Commanders and Squad Leaders now immune to team switch.

Anti-Air Missiles - These are now much more effective against fast-movers.

It's about damn time, took them long enough. The biggest thing for me is to see that they eliminated artillery TK's.... although I love this idea, hopefully a noob wont' get the commander spot and intentionally arty his own team.

Hey maybe I might actually go buy the game now that it looks like it's almost out of beta.

Eh? I've had no troubles running the game while running BF2CC, Ventrilo, and other aps.

Eh? I've had no troubles running the game while running BF2CC, Ventrilo, and other aps.

I meant the balancing of gameplay, exploit countermeasures and such that should have been in place at launch. I had held back on buying BF2 because the same thing happened with BF1942 and BFV. It pissed me off then and I was pretty much done with the games by the time they were starting to fix these kinds of issues.

Well it happened again with BF2 and I think I made the right decision on waiting.

Agreed. While Concillian has been "waiting" for a few minor tweaks to the game (ones that the community has asked for), everyone else has been having a blast playing the game.

I enjoy the game now, and these fixes will make it all that much more enjoyable.

Yes, I love the game too. While some things can be irritating at times, if you pick the right servers, MOST of the time you can end up having fun, challenging games with decent sets of teams.
If you can find a server where admins constantly monitor them, then you should have no problem.

The game is the most fun I've had since Q2 LMCTF

Well, I hear the above replies. Guys, Its frustrating. This could be such a good game. Its almost there. You can see it. But it hasnt quite come to ripe fruit. Let me try to list the problems.
!) Air is way to powerfull. Now I fully know in a real theater of war air is way to powerfull. Thats how it is and solders cant petition the devs to change it. But, this is supposed to be a ballanced game.
2) Blackhawlks have more armor than tanks? Even in a real theatre I dont think so. They have said before that would be looked at but I dont see it in the patch notes.
3) Blackhawlks have far better guns then there counterparts. Again game ballance.
4) lou the 7 year old jumps on your tank and tells you to get out. If you move you kill him and get the tk. He gets no penatly for being a jerk.
Thats just the short list. All that said it a incredable game. ya on a good team in a good squad, against a good team with good squads its fantastic. And ya on public servers thats rare.

They should have tweaked that, not gotten rid of it. There's alot of dumbass commanders out there.

...Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions.

Thank god. I can't count how many times I've been awarded 3+ TKs (plus their punishes) for being rammed by a jet whilst being a helo gunner.

I'd rather there were more official maps released with less air support available. I think nerfing the air support, while it balances play, makes it a little unrealistic....I think the biggest merit to the game is its attempt at realism (though, obviously, there needs to be some tweaking on that front in terms of some other weapons' damages).

I love the game anyway.
