BF2 problem with ATI

What are your ingame setttings?

I've tried the in-game "High" settings and it happened with that. Then I've tried the tweaked "Ultra High" settings by replacing the stock values of "3" with "4" in the Video.con file. Still there.

What are your 3D Driver settings?

4xQAAA, 16xHQAF, Vsync + Triple Buffering, 1680x1050.

Have you tried disabling Catalyst AI?

Yes. Off, Standard, and High.

Try HQ A-F 8x or 16x.

Personally I've never seen such overlapping textures issues with my X1800XL, but I always play the game with 16x HQ A-F, it might be helping reducing the issue to a point where I can't notice anything though.

Yeah, I've tried that twice myself to no avail. I know it is probably an application error, but it just seems weird that I didn't have this problem until within the last couple months. I'm wondering if one of their "helpful" patches introduced it. Strange that it didn't happen with my 7800GT though. Apparently others say that their Nvidia cards do the same thing, so I guess my one example of mine not doing it is moot.

So does anyone have a pretty definate answer as to what problem it is. LOD? A flawed default POV that shows a sort of texture overlapping? Z-fighting? Miscalculated shaders? etc....

Even if I can't fix it I'd be interested as to what is causing it to be so damn invincible.

I think it's safe to say that no one knows exactly what it is or how to fix it.

I get that on all my guns while playing bf2, I just ignored it after trying different settings. Would definatly like to get rid of it though.

Maybe I'll send an e-mail to that Tweakguides.com guy. That guru might know how to resolve it.

I know what is wrong and how to fix it. This is what you do:

1st: Right when it happens exit BF2.

2nd: Take BF2 cd out of cd tray.

3rd: Throw the cd out the window.

4th: Never buy another EA/Dice game.

There and then it should be fixed. This works for all glitches in BF2 by the way.

Josh6079 has actually played that 2142 and liked it I haven't heard if the guns don't do the weird thing.

IMO it's kind of a nit picky thing anyway.....who looks at their gun the whole game. I usually have a hard enough time trying to kill the guy shooting at me.

I do hate the mini game EA packaged with BF2.....you know that one that game where you look for 30 min. to get a server that doesn't crash and then when you do get one you can't do teamspeak or you get kicked because you said retard.

I just load the game up now to kill bots when I need to shoot some steam.

I will never forgive EA for ruining the LOTR games. Your a sports game maker stick on that side of the line ------------------------> | and stay the heck away from my fantasy games k?

Heh, yeah believe it or not I actually tried that BF 2142 Demo out. After playing it a while, no thanks. While it doesn't look that bad, I believe Quake Wars is going to look better and not have the EA logo on it. Not to mention the demo didn't even work without having to download a special dll file. While the Demo was fun for the most part, I think I'd rather see what other games have to offer before giving EA anymore money.

thats exactly what i'm going to do, i'm hoping quake wars has alot more to offer,i tried the 2142 demo and i think it feels like a mod and not seperate game to spend 50$ on

Glad I could help. You know I was thinking that blazingUK and Firestorm guys must be extremly patient to be able to deal with EA/Dice for as long as they have.

though certain ati drivers might be partially responsible, maybe wholly responsible for this.. its BF2.
quite possibly the worst game to blame ANY problem on a piece of hardware.

i trust the monkeys that program ati drivers more than the monkeys EA hires to make their games.
