here's why, the list could be longer too...

I am done w/ BF series
I DL the demo, it won't even run

awsome read, expecialy about the server browser

love the bf series, but the lack of any improvements on old bugs are getting a bit anoying

LOL, what a joke of a review. This guy is thinking beyond what 2142 is about. Talk about unrealistic. Anti-BF people are hilarious.

I tried the demo yesterday and I must say its very disapointing. Doesnt have the battlefield feel to it. Feels too much like Unreal Tournament, feels too much like a free mod for bf2.

Few pointers

1. The menu sucks, cant put it any other way. Its responsive enough though, just its structure is bad.
2. Vehicles are extremely unoriginal except for the hover tank. The walkers are neat. The rest of them are just reharshed bf2 cars that dont have any original design features.
3. A big big big map, not very fun to get around when there is nothing to take you anywhere except your own feet.
4. The teams are just about the same in about every way except for the single hover tank.
5. Needs more teams!
6. The titan idea is excelent, but badly executed with a bad design of the titan itself.

This is just BF Vietnam all over again, just with even less originality.

And this coming from a big big battlefield fan.

I guess revolvers have the stereotype of being outdated compared to pistols, but it's not that bad. 2142 isn't really that far into the future.

revolvers would be fine if the game was bf1842, but it is not. being that the game is over a century in the future means that they can flex their imagination muscles and what we are seeing is that it is equal to Urkel

and the walkers - pretty cool but just a copy cat of star wars movies

My grudge against the game is now personal.

So I eventually determined that the root of my constant disconnections was due to my firewall. Which is fairly absurd, because no other game has a real problem. But I can usually deal with opening a port or two.

I look up the readme, and it has a list of several thousand ports to open.

TCP 443
TCP 17475
UDP 27900
UDP/TCP 29900
TCP 80
TCP 4711
UDP 27901
UDP 1500-4999
UDP/TCP 1024-1124
UDP 29900
UDP/TCP 27900
UDP 16567
UDP 55123-55125
UDP/TCP 18000
UDP/TCP 18300
TCP 18510

Thats absurd. On the list is TCP 80 and 443, which I obviously can't forward to only my PC, or else no one else on my network will be able to browse the web. Rather than telling us the specific ports we need open that ususally arent open by default, it gives a list of all the ports that should be open. How the hell am I supposed to know that? First I need to know well enough to re-install directx, now I need to be a damn networking guru to figure this out? I assume just a one, or a small amount are only really crucial to prevent that crash, but I'm not about to do a 2 hour diagnostic test to find out which one it is.

So I put my software firewall up, and put my pc on the DMZ.

First mistake, I forgot to take my PC off the DMZ. I come home today, and my computer had restarted. The red shield pops up, telling me I should really put a firewall up.

I dont know what happened, or how bad the attack was, but obviously something did. How my firewall spontaneously turned itself off, I have no idea. My virus scanner gets hung and cant run to completion. Just what I need.

This is stupidity at its finest. Requiring thousands of ports to be open to play a damn game, and me forgetting to get off the DMZ.

Yeah I saw all those ports in the manual. I tried opening some or most of them before because I was getting disconnected but it ended up being an issue with the router and/or my roommates.

Now I have no problems and the only port that is forwarded in the router is for uTorrent. You definitely are NOT required to open those ports.

At least one of them has to be the magic port. Before I went into the DMZ, got disconnected every 3-4 min. After, I could play for hours, without disconnection.

Yup, I can't play it either. It gives me some ****** about d3d or something. Thumbs down.

Cant you read? you have to install DX9c when you install the game... sigh they try to help people out by keeping a download smaller and ya'll are soo dumb you dont read the directions.

Let's see DirectX 9.0c came out with service pack 2 August 25, 2004. But d3dx9_29.dll was a February 2006 update.

Lots of people who have DirectX 9.0c on their computer weren't able to run the game.
