Big data loss problem...

I just built my computer a few months back and I have been getting alot HDD problems with it.
Usually after I reinstall windows (worked for me very well on my old computer usually didn't give me too much problems), my HDD will screw up and lose all my data. Like a few of my files here and there will definately get corrupted and can't be opened.

And each time I restart my computer, scandisk will run itself and recover all my orphan files (can somebody explain to me what they do?) and when I finally get into windows, all my files get corrupted. Music, pictures, videos. All can't be opened.

Once or twice is fine. But it keeps escalating to more and more files each time I restart my computer. Which is like ****ing irritating. Then maybe it dies down after happily removing 80-90% of my data in 360GB of HDD. Usually leaving the data I've backed up and corrupting and/or deleting those I don't usally have.

After I try to reinstall windows again. It happens. Again. And a few hundred GB just dissappears just like that.

I have two HDDs, 160GB & 200GB, and I have sent them both in for RMA twice each. And each time they came back the problem occurs again. So I doubt it's my HDD anymore. I've also changed the damn cable.

So what the hell is wrong with my computer? They guy who RMA my HDD said it may be my motherboard. I'm using a MSI K8N Neo4-F.

Did you try stability testing with memtest86 and prime95? Start there and see if you have any problems. If you do, then there you go.

If you don't... then I would also lean towards a bad motherboard. The onboard drive controller might be corrupting data as it is written/read.

Checked with those two before. No problems last time. I'll give it another check and update here.

have you run any stress tests on these hdds? if so, are they very hot to the touch?

i cant off hand see how data would be there one moment and not the next when the hdds were already replaced.

No the data gets erased/corrupted/disappears everytime I restart my computer. The blue screen will appear and scandsk.exe will run and start replacing all my orphaned files.

Ok, so now you've run a RAM tester.... ???

And you've run a combo CPU/RAM tester... ???

Probably time to test the Hard Drive!!!

(why are you testing everything EXCEPT the function that is giving you trouble?)

You didn't mention what brand of HD you have (or I missed it), but I know Western Digital has a tool called Data LifeGuard.... Most likely, Other HD Mfgrs, do too. (check their website)

Next, since you obviously have bad storage components (Hdd/Ribbon) OR you have bad IDE controller functiton.... If your HD passes the Mfgr. test, lets work on the IDE function next.

First, this function is run by your chipset drivers and you should uninstall them and then re-install with the latest NF4 drivers ....

Try answering NO when it asks if you want to install the IDE accelerator (or whatever it is called) during the NForce install. (you will know what I am talking about when you see it.).

(Improper BIOS settings can also ferk up the works of a motherboard. Try clearing CMOS and then on your next boot, go to setup and select "load failsafe defaults")

If you are using SATA drives, repeat the above logic, replacing the word IDE with SATA where appropriate
