BIOS Locks

This is an odd issue... I have been humming along fine on a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum since it came out, no issues what-so-ever. I have a 3500, Audigy 2, ATI x800 Pro, 2 GB Crucial RAM, no o/c. I've not installed any new hardware (unfortunitely!!! heh) or even had the case opened for monthes.

Suddenly last night I rebooted and it hung after getting the RAID screen, I rebooted, went into the RAID screen first (since it was last message) and it said it was fine, so I exited and it locked again. I rebooted, hit DEL to go into BIOS, the screen loaded and then locked instantly.

The oddest part of all this is that I messed around in the box, checked fans, connections, reseated cards and rebooted. It booted into Windows with no issue. Tempting fate, I rebooted again, went to go into BIOS... LOCK. After several reboots, I got back into Windows. In no mood to troubleshoot (wanted to kill), I kicked off BF2 and played much of the night without a single issue on the system.

I decided to reboot tonight and it locked up, attempted to go into BIOS and locked up. AGAIN reseated things and finally went into Windows.

I figure if it's power supply, cpu, memory, heat, video that it certainly would have caused issues with BF2 and that's where I'm totally confused.

Anyone have a clue on this one?:disgust:

Did you try clearing the CMOS (bios)?

LOL LiLithTecH ... I didn't think of that until after I posted... I actually got it to go into bios finally, I made some changes, rebooted and realized that it didn't set the raid but then it hard locked and I couldn't get back in so then I finally thought of doing that.

I reset them, set devices back up ... booted and everything seemed great, rebooted multiple times just b/c it was fun to see it work! heh Ran fine over the weekend and was going swing back out here to give an update Monday night but decided to reboot before so and it started again.

HOWEVER! I think I may know the issue but haven't read anything about it yet...I think the northbridge fan is dying, it looked a bit wobbly (word??) when I opened it up again Monday so I messed around a bit, seemed running OK and the system was OK for a bit but then the sound of a bad fan kicked in. I'm in process of ordering one now, so I hope that's the problem since it seems to be the only reasonable explaination that everything else runs without a hitch once in Windows.

Thanks for the post... The best way for me to think of things is to post and then, for some reason, something else hits me, usually disaster! LOL
