There should be an option to set the default video card (AGP vs. PCI) in the BIOS.
Which motherboard do you have?

I'm assuming that you disabled the onboard video via the BIOS. Wasn't there an option there to indicate the order of the video port (AGP or PCI)?

Please mention all the details next time. Disabling something in the Device Manager is not the same as disabling it in the BIOS.

If you want to change which is the default to boot display video from, AGP vs. PCI, you should do that in the BIOS.
If you're not sure what the BIOS is, just say so. Be warned though, that a mistake there could cause problems with your computer.

Did you get any manuals with your computer? If so, mention what they are. If you're lucky, one of them may actually be the motherboard manual. That should tell you how to set the slot to load video from.

Couldn't say why that happened.
Can you explain in more detail, just how the sound is "screwy"? Do you mean that you hear static or intermittent drops in sound?

Just as a test, have you tried re-enabling the onboard video in the Device Manager? Does the sound still malfunction? It shouldn't, if the onboard video is really related to it.

Even better, have you backed up all your data first? It never hurts, and I would recommend using several floppies for dupes if you don't have a lot of data.

Is your sound coming from the motherboard as well? In other words, is it integrated like the video or do you have a separate card to handle audio? If it is a separate card, I would try checking for upgraded drivers.

Okay, one more shot before I head off to sleepyland.

1) I'm assuming you're using Windows 2000 or XP. For 2000, go to Start\Run and type in "winmsd" (minus quotes). Then hit <Enter>. It should tell you where it says [System Model], what the motherboard is. I think XP has the same details, but not sure.
2) If you don't find the relevant info from there, you can download Belarc Advisor
Hopefully that will generate a report that will tell you what hardware you have.

I'm not surprised that buying a separate sound card fixed it. Sounds like running video off the PCI bus led to it sucking up the bandwidth available for your integrated sound card. Getting a sound card with its own dedicated processor seems to have alleviated it.

Regardless, good to hear it's working now. Enjoy your computer.
