Question BIOS showing up on my secondary display, not primary?

Why are my bootup/POST/BIOS/UEFI screens all showing up on my secondary monitor (which, inconveniently in this case, happens to be set up vertically)? Does it have to do with which DP port is being used on the graphics card (4070 FE)? I mean, do I just have to swap the connectors for each panel? Or is it something else?

I'm only asking because accessing the back of my rig is a bit of a hassle at the moment, so I'm checking before I try it out.

And if you're wondering, I have my primary connected to the DP port immediately next to the HDMI port, and the secondary connected to the DP port next to that. Like this:

HDMI (unused)
DP (primary)
DP (secondary)

DP (unused)
DP (unused)

That's why I said monitor not rig. Monitors are easy to access. Right?

Someone give this man an award.

Seriously though, it would also be a bit of a hassle, given how I've managed the cabling (it's a work of art currently). The back of the rig would actually be easier.

I'm just envisioning some cool feature in Nvidia's control panel stuff that lets you control the default priorities of the ports on the card, or something.

Well on the os level you can set the primary or default display but I don't think you can on the board level. If your ocd kicks in you'll move the tower and flip the cables and deal with it.

Sure, and that'll work just as soon as you load the driver into the OS, not at POST. A change at POST would require a firmware mod, one that is beyond my capability.

If swapping the two cables at either the video card or monitors is more work than already further invested in the topic, you have serious cable management OCD issues. Surely you should have checked functionality before you tucked away all the cables and caught this issue at that time?

Huh?

I just felt like making this thread because I could, to see what you guys say; I remember back in the day, this forum was very active with all sorts of posts. Gone are those days. Now, you post something with actual curiosity and end up getting personally attacked half the time, and as an added bonus, everyone on here is a licensed psychologist or even psychiatrist now, apparently.

And I did end up swapping the ports used. It solved the issue as I figured it would. But again, I didn't see the harm in asking ahead of time. How wrong I was.

And the irony in your saying my post was a "first world problem" (complete with a cute hashtag) is funny because you complaining about having to "tolerate" a thread like this is itself a first world problem.

But whatever, no hard feelings. I did appreciate your first paragraph; was constructive and the sort of response I was looking for.

Yes, it was great harm and the end of the world to swap ports. What's that rolled eyes emo.. nevermind.

#firstworldproblem

I can't even imagine how pathetic it is to enlist the help of others in order to not bother to reach down and swap a cable from one socket to the other one right next to it.

You have to be kidding me. WTFBBQ.

Enlisting the help of others? You're clearly not getting it. I was just asking a question. It's called being inquisitive.

Too much trouble for you? Don't respond to the thread.

Keep fighting from behind your keyboard, baddie. And keep using those hashtags. Real badass.

Note btw: I even ended my initial response to you on a positive note, and you chose to ignore it and instead stooped to even lower levels than you did initially. Extremely petty. Like I said, keep hashtagging away.

no.

But after posting on Anandtech it is strongly encouraged to obtaining the services of a psychologist or psychiatrist. I recommend the psychiatrist myself, the drugs they prescribe are very helpful. The talk therapy works to, not knocking on it. But you did post on Anandtech, your treatment and path forward in living with this for the rest of your life is going to be easier with psychiatric drugs. You might want to consider engaging the services of both a psychologist and psychiatrist. They have a lot of respect for each other and work well together.

That is likely the best path forward for you considering ... what has happened to you.

"what has happened to you."

Lol. I think you're greatly overestimating the adverse effect that poster had on me, so don't worry.

If anything, it just confirmed what I already knew based on past experiences on AT: some people have issues, to say the least. Borderline neckbeards, if not actual neckbeards, half the time (and I hate to use the term but it's hard not to in this case).

Plenty of good people on here too though, and even the people with issues have some good things to contribute (as I pointed out in a previous post above), so that's a reason I stay.

I used to have this problem with the added fun that one of my monitors was in portrait so navigating the BIOS that was rotated 90° was always fun!
It never seemed to matter which ports things were plugged into, the bios screen would just randomly switch to the secondary monitor for a short while then switch back.

This was my exact situation. It was really awkward while it lasted.

There's never been such a thing in BIOS, although older pre-UEFI would default to an actual VGA as primary, if present.

i know im late but how the heck do you have 5 ports on a 4070FE?
My 4090 STRIX only has 5 because 2 are HDMI and they stacked the HDMI on top of each other, and made the card almost 4 slots thick.

And usually in order...

HDMI - last priority.
DP 1 - First Priority
DP 2 - Second Priority
DP 3 - Third Priority.

about 80% of the cards i have owned follow that post order in slots.
