When it first came out, I playes BS2 about 45 minutes. I then put it down and never picked it up again. Just couldn't get into it. Recently, I tried to fire the game up again and it hangs at the start screen, everytime. Surprisingly, I wasn't disappointed. Maybe I'm just getting old.

The story just wasn't engaging, I didn't care about any of the characters. It seems like they just gave up trying to make that awesome somewhere at the halfway point and instead chose to focus on upping the FPS gameplay; perhaps they were just out of ideas.

New IP looks awesome though.

Not to push this thread beyond it's death,

But I've been replaying BS1.

As much as I enjoyed BS2, there is nothing like the original.

One thing that BS1 has that the sequel doesn't - there are some genuinely frightening moments in the original, that aren't in the sequel.

*SPOILER*

The dentist who appears right behind me in his steamy office gets me every time.

I'll bite. Every time a big sister shows up after I've harvested one of the kids I get my shit freaked out and shiver uncontrollably until either I've died or killed the bitch.

I thought BS2 was great. Everyone bummed me out making me think it was going to be a steaming pile. I didn't think so. The story might've been lesser, but overall, it was a great game.

I'm playing it right now, the game's quite fun actually. So I started to look around and...

http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88830

(...) We will also not be offering Protector Trials and Minerva’s Den on the PC in the future (...)

I'm bummed about the Minerva's Den DLC, as it's the only singleplayer DLC for Bioshock 2 (I don't play multiplayer anyway). The story seems nice so far (roughly 6 hours into the game).

I hope I won't run into any bugs or issues (none so far!), because they are dropping support for the PC ("timing and technical reasons") and won't be giving any patches out in the future. And there are apparently a lot of things broken for some people.

Good thing I got it on some crazy promo on Steam

I really enjoyed the game, even though it wasn't as expansive as the original.

just finished BS2. Not as good as the first but that last level was pretty cool and intense. Some stuff just gold old and repetitive, like harvesting ADAM.

I had a bunch of crashes that were annoying, but other than that it ran great.

Well, I finished the game. Steam says 20 hours. It was fun. Though the moment I got Winter Blast 3 the game became cake. That + Drill Specialist and I was running with a full wallet and ammo (as I was using only the drill). Melee was fun though, especially the crazy dash One-shotting everything That dash move really made me feel like a Big Daddy from Bioshock 1.

The story is weaker than the first game, still OK though. I found the ending kinda weird (went all good on the choices in the game).

Well worth the 10€ or something I paid on Steam. And I didn't have a single bug, issue or even a stutter/slowdown. The only thing I was missing is AA - no in-game option and CCC forcing didn't work. Apart from that the game ran beautifully.

I actually never had a problem with the big sisters like I did with the big daddies. That's part of the reason that the first kept me on edge a lot more than the second one. I felt a lot more vulnerable in the first one, which makes sense given you're a big daddy in the 2nd, but it still took a bit of the thrill away.

so this thread reminded me that i still had this sitting around completely unplayed. i was pretty stoked for it when it first came out... i almost got the CE just for the vinyl record of the first game's soundtrack. but then i read a lot of the negative reviews and kind of forgot about it.

so last night i installed it and started playing... and right off the bat... it's sooooooooooo insanely linear. the environments aren't nearly as well done. and i think the graphics actually look WORSE due to the excessive amounts of bloom.

so far though the story is pretty compelling and definitely keeping me going. there's just a lot missing from the first one.

here's hoping for bioshock infinite as those gameplay videos look UHMAZZZZZZZING

I started up Bioshock 2 this week. I love it so far. I think it is better than the original (which was great). The variety in big daddy types is awesome. Big Sisters are freaky and intimidating. The art direction and music are great. There really isn't anything I DON'T like so far.

I've been talking about it some on the podcast that my wife and I do together. You guys are welcome to listen if you are interested (and can stand our Texas / Alabama accents).

It is episode 47. I will still be talking about it next week as well. I am about 3/4 of the way through now.

On a personal note, I hated how linear the 2nd one was compared to the 1st. The 1st wasn't "open" by any means either, but the 2nd one always shut off the last area you were in permanently... so you could never go back or anything which was pretty annoying.

It was still a decent game, it just didn't improve much on the first one and did a few particular things to make it worse (IMO). I don't regret playing it but I AM happy I just borrowed it and didn't buy it.

I actually like the linear progression a lot more. There's nothing more annoying than clearing a level, going on to the next, and then finding out you have to go find "X" item and its somewhere 2 levels back with respawned monsters you have to kill yet again. Makes for tedious and boring gameplay. I loved both bioshock games and can't wait for the next.

Okay, after reading this thread I started playing it for the first time several days ago. I've put in about 18 hours on Hard level and I think I'm near the end, but I thought that about 2 hours ago, then the story took an abrupt turn - twice! Love it. The last 3-4 hours of gameplay have been great.
