My guess it's the video memory even with 3gb of vram when using maxed out without fxaa but smaa in crisis 3 I always got that to the point my pc just rebooted. Gpu z stated vram usage was about 80-90% used.

That way with fxaa and ultimate details it plays smooth.

Remember how awesome the simple tram ride in Half-Life was? Multiply that by 100 for the sheer wow factor.

I hated that tram ride, it made me want to quit the game before I even started the very first time I loaded it lol. It was bearable in Black Mesa at least.

I'm wondering if it's an issue with video memory. I'm guessing that Aero requires some video memory, and if the paltry 2GB on my GTX 680 is being used up, then there won't be enough resources. Is there a good tool for me to track video memory usage? I believe AMD has it in the Overdrive section of the Catalyst Control Center, but I don't recall there being an equivalent nVidia Control Panel section.

You can install HWiNFO and set up their gadget, and you can track pretty much anything. I noticed at some points, even in menus, GPU usage is maxed. I'll keep an eye out for memory usage. I do remember it being on the high side, and I'm not running Ultra settings.

I just lowered it all the way and its manageable for me. Also, playing on 1080 very high for me vs ultimate seems to have the same performance.

Found it in UserOptions.ini instead of Input.ini. Changed the min/max, gave me a range that was actually usable. Still need to fix the zoom in mouse speed though

MinMouseLookSensitivity=0.010000
MaxMouseLookSensitivity=0.100000

Wasn't there a "problem" with World of Warcraft a year or two ago where people were having their video cards overheat? If I remember correctly, the issue was that they would leave their game on the menu screen, but since the screen wasn't very involved, it would render at really high rates and just pound the poor GPU. Blizzard ended up implementing an adjustable frame rate cap feature to ensure your frame rate wasn't too high. I think mine was set somewhere around 120-180.

4 hours in and I'm pretty sure I'm not half-way in yet. Only have 4 vigors and maybe half the weapons.

Looking forward to getting home, but might be too late and tired to play for long or really enjoy it.

About 2 hours in, tho not that far into the game but so far am having a BALL!! From what I'm seeing, definitely GOTY material. I'm also having mouse issues -- the lowest setting is ridiculously slow but one notch above is insane. I believe I had to set the lowest setting and enable mouse acceleration for something tolerable. I'm assuming it's due to high DPI on the mouse although mine is a boring, cheap wireless logitech.

I had to turn mouse acceleration off and the slider for sensitivity down to the lowest it will go. I am a low sensitivity gamer, and the default sensitivity is just whacked... barely nudge the mouse and my view spins 180 degrees. Suprising this and not being able to bind Enter are in the game... everything else seems like it got multiple layers of polish.

Not really sure how far I'm into it, but I'm loving it so far. I think mostly I just love the art direction. There are those that are going to blast it for being "Bioshock", however..there are nods, but this isn't Bioshock. The story is pretty cool so far, but the environment is what shines.

From what I've played so far, it is pretty straight forward and linear. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it is not Dishonored. The story seems to be key here.

Only real gripe is the save system. Absolutely hate it because half the time I can't tell when it saved last. It doesn't always pop a display up.

One other complaint is when you die..you don't really come back where you died..but..nearby and things aren't the same as when you died, a few times that was confusing.

Riding the rail system..is...on rails, but not really on rails. You can move around, speedup/slowdown, turn around, etc. Pretty fun, but limited so far.

You didn't review the game, you demo'd it. I don't think you can truly review a game unless you finish it (or at least...75% of it)

Considering I didn't care for any of the Crisis games..I'd say they are going for a different crowd to a degree. I like wierd games..and this game is weird. I actually liken this game to Singularity which I also liked quite a bit.

Yes I agree, and I will play more.

That being said, most of the mechanics are already revealed. The game's schtick is already apparent and it's just not fun so far.

I keep wanting to launch the game again, but I find myself just surfing the net.

That was kind of my point in my other posts. I don't think the FPS part is the schtick. It's the environment and the story..and who knows..maybe the rails thing gets a bit more involving later, don't know. I agree as an FPS, it's...simple really.

If you need a real-time display, I'd recommend MSI Afterburner. Works with all 3 current types of GPUs, and can be re-positioned as desired (defaults to top left). If you also have a Logitech G-series keyboard with display, it can output to that as well.

The story gets better with a couple small twists. Plus, some tactics become available that aren't at the beginning. One tactic has never been used in Bioshock and is pretty cool.

I agree with impulse here.

I really hate it when people post reviews after playing only a snippet of a game. That's like 90% of metacritic user reviews right there (who do the same thing), if not outright troll. They see an option isn't available in the graphics area and they immediately post a 0/10 review. Ugh. Not saying you did this of course, but there are many reviews over there which are completely ridiculous. Anyway. I wish more people would try to get a complete impression (eg play most of the game) before trying to make a semblance of a review. A game may get better or worse over time, certainly bioshock games aren't the type of games where you can pick it up and absorb it in 2 minutes. It's not like an immediate gratification type of game, whereas BF3 multiplayer is immediate gratification - it's a complete different gameplay paradigm. One that doesn't lend itself to a review after playing only 30 minutes.

The problem is if a person doesn't like the game, playing more is going to change the review. He was pretty upfront about how much he played, so there's nothing wrong with it in my opinion. If a game only gets good in the last half of the game, that seems to be a major design flaw.

It depends on the depth of the game. Certainly this may be true of straightfoward corridor shooters, but other types of games? Not so much. Remember story and atmosphere are large parts of bioshock games and that isn't an immediate gratification type of deal - you have to play and explore to experience it. Therefore a 30 minute review would be rather worthless. Actually, completely worthless IMHO.

For instance, I loved assassin's creed: revelations. Absolutely loved it. But it took me a few hours to really get a feel for it and get involved in the story. I loved the atmosphere and music in AC: revelations, and the story was awesome. There's a MAJOR twist at the end that AC fans will love. It wasn't "love at first sight" If I had made a review based on 30 minutes it would have been a bad review, because the intro is all about introducing the player to the universe and making them accustomed to the controls. It's not representative of the game as a whole.

Elizabeth starts playing a larger role as well in what things you can do and it starts giving some more options as well with tactics to some degree. I'm about 5 hours in and really it still feels like the beginning of the game in many ways still.

I like the game so far, but I don't feel it is nowhere near the level these reviewers are saying it is, at least currently. Then again a lot of what is getting the praise is the story and I really haven't scratched that surface too much yet so I will reserve judgement till I am done.

I went in expecting pretty much Bioshock gameplay with some added stuff and so far it has proved to be what I expected from a gameplay standpoint. I do love the atmosphere. Art style is nice, music is great, and it is nice to see a game take on racism is some form as well.
