The Bioshock Demo was leaked to the internet last night. I just got finished downloading & playing it (it's about 20-25 minutes long). The game is amazing, and the graphics are great also :Q

I was able to run it with everything on HIGH (vsync off) at 1024*768 (no AA or AF... although I didnt really notice any lack of them that much) and it was perfectly smooth. At 1280*1024 with everything on high it was still playable but the framerate got a little low for my tastes. It was getting down to around 15 fps in the more intensive scenes

Not bad for a budget system... it should run great on 8800's :Q

my system:

AMD x2 3800+ @ stock speeds
7600gt
1.75gb of ram
x-fi xtreme music (sound effects were great also)

Here's a screenshot running at 1280*1024, I was getting a framerate in the low 20's when I captured that screenshot

 to the bioshock devs for making the game run great on the 360 AND Pc... something that the R6 Las Vegas devs couldnt do

edit: this was also without the "bioshock optimized" drivers that nvidia just released, I was using the 91.33's. I'm downloading the new drivers now

as requested by tuteja:

ATI Bioshock hotfix

nVidia bioshock compatibility driver

Very nice. That pic you posted looks just as good as the 360 version.

I'm downloading the demo now; and I've already pre-loaded and purchased the full version via Steam.

That's not saying much "it looks just as good as the 360 version" it should in fact look better

Considering he's using a 7600GT (a <$100 card), that's a respectable result. Try running other 360 ports like R6:Vegas, Lost Planet or Dirt on a 7600GT, and getting such good results.

And this is a 360 port we're talking about here; I don't expect the PC version to look dramatically better than the 360 version, except for the ability to run it at a higher resolution with more AF. AFAIK UE3 doesn't support AA either way.

DX10 might be a different story but so far I don't know how the game will look in DX10.

No clue...I'm still downloading it

It doesn't really matter; in less than 24 hours my Steam copy will be activated.

Cool. Hopefully the performance penalty won't be too harsh.

Supposedly DX10 adds cooler water AND enables AA.

You mean horrible coding jobs? Can you even count those? By my standards no. You have to look at games that are done properly.

This is NOT a 360 port, Bioshock began its development and ended its development as a pc title. It was ported to the 360.

skulkingghost...I was of the idea that the game was developed for 360 by 2KBoston (formerly Irrational) and ported to PC by 2KAustralia...I could be wrong...

But even the earliest demos (the 2006 E3 demo for instance) were running on 360...that's why I believe the game was developed with the 360 in mind.

Gotta run home & start up steam to get the demo... I already have the full version pre-loaded but I haven't bought it yet.

Here's hoping 7900GTX SLI can handle this at 1920x1200.

:fingerscrossed;

It looks good. There is not a significant difference between this and the 360 version, but that's not a complaint; It's a compliment.

Problem is, at this point, the 360 is geting better framerates than your PC. The 360 demo had no framerate issues at all...

cause 360 install base that may buy the game > PC base that can run it

Streamlined console games should run solid.

Yeah, but I think with a 7900gs or x1950pro I could run smoothly on 1280*1024 with maxed settings. One of those won't cost you much more than $100

anyway 1280*1024 is a higher resolution than the 360 runs at

Anyone else not getting sound in the demo? It works fine in the introduction, but as soon as the gameplay starts, I hear nothing.

Edit: nevermind, just had to make an ALchemy profile for it.

Are you sure its a 360 port? I think its a PC game, thats been poarted to the 360, not from it. In any case, the PC version does look better. Ive seen side by side shots comparing, and seen it at my fiends house on this 360. Actually called him up just to see it. Kinda felt bad, but not that bad.

The PC version can also crank up the AA/AF, and res. Something the console version cant do. And have DX10 effects.

Im sure we'll see comparisons from various sites, FS will probably do an evaluation as they always seem to do.

I like my consoles.. but the one thing the PC has over the 360 is a kb+mouse. That seals the deal for me.

And we can have side-by-side comparisons of two people each with a console/PC version of the game respectively. Let's see how fast each of them gets to play their game. Let's hope the PC version runs at a constant enough framerate so that one's attention can be focused on the story and atmosphere instead of technical issues.

Obviously, some people with high-end PC's won't have problems, and those that do may be equipped to solve it, but some people just want to play hassle-free. People have different priorities. There is no need to make a snarky comment about your friend.

To SchneiderGuy: I'm in Canada, and the cards that you mentioned cost ~$200. The 8600GT that I bought cost $100, and I hope I can get it to run well at 1280x720. 1280x1024 may be a higher resolution, but I can't imagine running without a widescreen resolution, and I daresay that nothing short of the $300CAD 8800GTS 320MB will have a shot at running that resolution without turning too many graphical options to low. I am not saying those with the right PC setups won't run this game better than the 360, but those with 360's obviously have their reasons, and some people need to respect that.

You act as if consoles dont slow down, they do. This isnt a PC vs. console agrugment. Its a simple fact that PC has better controlling options, and better graphics. Sure it costs more (although you can spend 2k+ easy on a HDTV for the 360), but for this game, it seems a no brainer if you have a PC capable of playing it. I have a lower end PC now, and it runs the game very well actually.

I didnt make a "snarky" comment about my friend. I implied that I used him just to see the game on his 360. I have a PS3, and he did the same to me to play the Heavenly Sword demo. If you read anything else into, then thats on you.
