bizzare monitor/video card problem?

so i turned off my working computer and monitor for the weekend while i was away. i came back and turned on the computer only to find my monitor displaying bizarre colors and shapes on the screen. the mobo beeps, but i cant see bios or windows anything running. just these colors and shapes on the screen. the cd reads the cd in the drive, the red hd light lights up and blinks, the fans are on in the computer and the fan on the video card is on. after a minute or whatever, the monitor goes dark and display the no signal error.

the card is an ati 9800pro and the monitor is a viewsonic vx series 19". dvi connection.

any ideas?

Have you tried the monitor via VGA? Or with another DVI cable?

It could also be a dead video card...do you have access to a mobo with AGP so that you can test it in there?

hmm, im gonna try a vga cable tonite and see if that works. i was actually just thinking it could be a defective dvi cable. just kinda weird since it was just working.

i dont have another computer to check the vid card though.
