I just finished assembling my pc, and when I power it on the computer boots up, but I don't see anything on the monitor (which is hooked up to the vid card). Can someone help me with this, please?

do you hear any beeps or anything? hook up your speakers. also, make sure the 20/24 pin connector is in, as well as the 4 pin by the cpu socket. make sure the video card is pushed in all the way, and make sure your ram is in the right place according to your manual

No beeps, and all the connectors are hooked up properly. The video card is pushed all the way in, and the RAM is were it should be. IS it possible to use the S-video to hook it up to a tv?

here's what happened on my first custom:
friend installed ram chips backwards (check memory)
friend messed with BIOS beyond what he knew (reset CMOS)

as you can tell, i build my own systems from then on

Ok, checked the memory, and it's installed the tight way, and I reset the CMOS. I get something like 8-10 beeps (hard to tell) when it's hooked up to my LCD, but no beeps when it's hooked up to my CRT.

Did you get it going yet? If not do you have on board video. Check the manual to find out what the beeps mean.

Just the fact that you get a different amount of beeps when it is hooked up to a different monitor [don't know why it should happen] means you should probably start looking around the vid card - Firstly, is the card you have compatible with the mobo?
ie x8/x4/x2.

Have you got another vid card lying around you could try, or a friend who is willing to let you borrow his/hers for a minute?

According to the manual your mobo only supports PC3200 in one slot up to a maximum of 1GB. So what you could try is to remove one of the DIMMs and then see what happens.

If I were you, I would remove the video card entirely and try a replacement. Also, definitely update your BIOS to accomodate any RAM fixes or other fixes that may have come along since the factory BIOS version. You should be able to get it to post using a barebones config and your regular monitor. If not, you'll have to swap old stuff in until you isolate the culprit.

1. Can't remember if the 9700pro needed power, check the manual/look at the card and see if it has a spot for a molex connector. If so plug it in.
2. Make sure that you read the manual and put the ram in correctly. As per, if it need it in the 1st slot first or in the case of some asus boards the 3rd slot first.
3. Does the power supply comeon/stay on?
4. The post light on the motherboard does that come on.
5. Plug headphones into your onboard audio and see if you get beeps. If you do count them check the mobo manual see what the error message is.
6. Post back and tell us what happends/

1. The molex connector is hooked up, and the fan on it is whirling.
2. The RAM is put in correctly, and I have two slots only anyways.
3. The pwoer supply comes on and stays on.
4. Don't think my motheboard has a post light
5. Not out of the onboard sound, but out of the case speaker, I hear 2 short beeps, a pause, then 8 short beeps. According to this that would be a memory parity error and display memory read/write error. Anyone know what I should do?

Remove one ram stick and boot, then try it in anther slot and repeat. Then do the same for the other stick. Then pull the vid card and boot while doing the preceding tests. See if the beeps change between each test. Might help narrow it down.

OK, suddenly I no longer hear beeping when starting up the motherboard. Even with both sticks of RAM and the vid card in. But i stil ldon't get anything on the monitor I tried using the video card and RAM from my current pc (both working flawlessly), but to no avail. I'm starting to think my motehrboard might be messed up, as I didn't use the motherboard standoffs before when first powering the system up.

Not quite sure I understood, you're trying with two monitors, right? Are you using the same video cable for both monitors? It might be that the cable is not working right, there could be some bent pins on it?

But the beeps, memory parity error sounds suspicious. Are the two dimms a matched pair? Or two separate dimms? Have you tried with just one Dimm?

Do you have access to another computer anywhere? You can try the memory in the other computer to see if they cause the other computer to not boot as well. I'd say the memory seems the most likely culprit, although it is possible that your video card is DoA.
Did you buy it in a store, or online? If in a store, you can take it back to them and ask them to test (or plain replace) it.

what's the system you are using now? Are you able to swap parts w/ your new board? If so try the following...

1. take the vid card out and try it in the other machine.
2. take the ram out and try it in the other machine w/ the vid card (asuming the vid card works)
3. If they don't work, lay them aside and only use the parts your that you know work.

I can't try the RAM and Vid card on the other machine because my other pc takes PC2700 RAM and doesn't have an AGP slot (damn celeron budget computer from Dell).

The RAM will work in the other machine, as long as it's a standard ddr slot. It will just drop to the lower speed, pc2700 as opposed to pc3200.

Also, could you provide a link to the card itself, and the ebay auction if possible? The only aopen 6600's I could find with 256mb were PCI-E cards, thanks.

Another edit, I'm an idiot, and didn't look far enough to find the 256mb AGP Aopen 6600's. But a link to the manufacturer could still help. Thanks.

Ok, I tested the RAM (using it right now in fact) and it runs perfectly. I don't think the card itself is the problem, as I put a working vid card in the system and the monitor still didn't display anything. The link for the auction is here. I'm using the vga connector.
