i was using a world edition and the plastic thing in the middle separated entirely from the circuit board inside the phone. i took it apart and that piece seemed to be held in place with only a few tiny wires soldered to the main board. those are the data/power pins themselves, so it doesn't look like a very sturdy design.
I've supported an assortment of 8703s, 8330s, and 8830s for the past three years and I haven't seen that happen yet. I believe that the users are pretty easy on their devices, though.
I've had the world edition (dunno the model no.) I got from work for a few months now, seems ok so far. The phone feels cheap overall though (compared to my iphone).
