I got the WRT54g wireless router...first one I could never get a signal with it. I picked up the SSID..but could never get an IP address. RMA'd it..now the "new" one I got gets a signal and everything, but drops signal every minute or two for a few seconds..very annoying. I've used different wireless cards, known working ones. Just venting.

I dunno why everyone is jumping on the 802.11g bandwagon.

802.11b is widely available, stable and CHEAP!

Besides 802.11g only helps if I am transferring files within our wifi network (which I never do), I cannot surf the internet any faster.

Indeed. Linksys does lick balls when it comes to wireless routers. Netgear all the way for dirt cheap SoHo wireless.

Is there an updated firmware? Friend of mine had the same problem but with a B wireless linksys router. The update fixed his problems.

Updated to the latest firmware. It even has the Cisco logos all over it.

I do lots of file transfering on my 802.11b network and wish I had 802.11g. Maybe they're planning for the furture?

Yeah I do a ton of file transferring between LAN machines and I wanted to jump on the G stuff, but I've heard of many instabilities with it, still... holding off a bit longer... even while they become ridiculously cheap with all these rebate deals... :|

Can't give up my wired/stable 100Mbps transferring just yet.

I have no problem with my WRT54G, infact im using it to connect wireless to a mac, and the pc is still wired. My connection is fast and stable, it has yet to drop or cause any instability issues (so far).

Disable 802.1x encryption on your machines and you shouldn't get the dropouts every couple of minutes
