Bleh....Decisions :/ neeeed help

So i had it all planned out, was going to buy a computer based on the intel 2.8C proc and Asus P4P800 Deluxe mobo. But now the A64 3000 came out, and according to the benchies it rivals the 3.2 and 3.0 processor in games. So im asking you guys what you think. I know 64 bit realy isnt needed right now, but this computer is going to have to last a long time so its good to be prepared. But the intel has hyperthreading, i dunno how much that factors in. So guys, A64 or 2.8C Intel?

By the way, im going to be using this mainly for gaming/burning dvds and cds/listening to music/and a little bit of picture and video editing.

I wouldnt bother with the AMD64 right now.
For the price i think you will be very happy with the P4 2.8C plus you can always upgrade the P4 to they're prescott core in the future and O/C that P4 2.8C to some impresive numbers.

There's a news clip on the front page that says AMD chips next year will work on current boards. Since the A64 3000+ is faster and cheaper than the P4, I'd say get an A64. Don't worry about 64 bits now though since the point is to have a fast 32 bit chip at a low cost.

Yea i understand right now is to have a fast 32 bit computer...but im also lookin to the future because this computer is gonna have to last for 1.5-2 years at least. So basically im just asking for your guys opinion on which one will perform the best in gaming and whati mentioned above right now but will also last for a while. Also, this may be a stupid question but which of these processors runs the hottest, ive only had intel processors before.

So one for the A64 and one for the intel 2.8, could use some more input ;p

OK, as you can see I have the 3000+. You already stated the obvious, that it will beat the 3.2 P4 for less money. So what are you waiting for ? You already have benches to prove what I say. And you must have read them, otherwise you wouldn't be posting. Go go for it !!!

well then...could you recomend a motherboard for that processor? I dont know anything about AMD motherboards.

And, will the Geil pc3500 golden dragon ram i have work fine with this proc? Its what i was gonna get for my P4 setup.

dollar for dollar, A64 3000+ is a pretty sweet deal.
