Rats! The deal is not available online. Now I'll have see if I can talk the local store into accepting a card purchased elsewhere even though they aren't participating in the promotion.

Exact words from the back of the card:

"This card is good for one (1) free movie DVD or VHS rental per week for 10 consective weeks from the date of purchase at the participating store location where the rental card is purchased and only on the BLOCKBUSTER membership account number of purchase for all 10 rentals...... Redeemed Rentals will count towards BLOCKBUSTER Rewards benefits. Rental cannot be redeemed for game or equipment rentals.... If recipient rents multiple movies when redeeming rental, ."credit will be applied to the highest qualifying rental price"

This deal just became more interesting considering that it does count towards rewards benefits... as if it is a paid rental... that means you should get one free rental on mon-wed just for using your rental card to get one movie.... further more... you use this card 4 times a month if you don't skip a week... so that means that you just have to pay for another rental to get the "rent 5 get 1 free" rewards...

So in theory that 10 rental will net you 10 free rentals with "rent 1 get one free" rewards... and 2 more free if you pay for 1 rental a month.

This should work, if it doesn't... just show them the "fine print" on the back of the card.

I'm going to try to get 2 free rentals tomorrow with the card... hope it works! =P

only problem is with Blockbuster's computer system I can never get my free rental. It always kicks in a coupon which I'm using to pay for one and get one favorite free mon-wed. In other words I've rented well over 30 or 40 and have never (technically yes but theoritically no) gotten a free rental. If only the employees could overriide the system then it'd worked but they can't. I wanna get the 4 disc set but might just have to settle for this cuz I'm one impatient fool.

This is a really sweet deal!! Even better for Rewards members since the one free rental a month that you get by mail counts towards rewards benefits too at my Blockbuster. So 4 movies during 4 weeks, plus the one free coupon I get by mail and the other free rental for the 5 credits means that this could be 6 movies a month for the next 2 months. This would be $25 for LOTR (for inducing extra peaceful sleep) and 14 rentals. Amazing!

My rentals cost $4.49 with tax so we're looking at $62.86 value in rentals alone plus a free gift to a friend who is suffering from insomnia. Insane!

I just picked this up.. They even let me use it right away for the movies I was renting.

They had asked me if I'd wanted DVD or VHS, and whether I wanted Pan-Scan or Widescreen.. but I never found out how I'm supposed to get the movie. Are they gonna mail it to me? Or do I go in later when I find out that it's been released, and pick it up then? Anyone who did the previous Shrek deal know what's gonna happen?

2. Extended Cut adds 30 minutes
3. Extended Cut with the National Geographic Special on LOTR as a giftset
4. Extended of the Extended Adds 30 minutes to the Extended for a total of an hour extra.

I was already crying money grubber at 3 releases and then I read about the 4th. They already made their money back for all
3 films with just the theatrical release of the 1st. It was a great movie, but enough is enough.

Mark

They do it because they know there are people who are rabid enough as fans to pay for all 4, ridiculous as it is.

Hey All,

I Got in on this deal! as well as the Shrek deal last summer! This is a SWEET deal! Blockbuster actualy loses money on this "IF" you use all 10 rentals "AND" you DONT incure any late fees! They are basicaly banking on the fact that enough people wont use all the rentals and/or will lose the card alltogether and/or will incure late fees.

Out...

I got in on this deal on Sunday. The lady told me it ends today (monday the 5th) so better get in on it now. She said LOTR will be released on the 6th and I can walk in tell them I bought the card and they will hand me the DVD. She asked if I wanted Pan(Hah!) or Widescreen. She didn't know if it was special edition.

Just to add another confirmation to the deal and questions. I live in CA, and my local blockbusters in berkeley area (shattuck) does this deal and its basically a 10 rental (ANY RENTAL NEW OR OLD) deal. I have to rent a MAX of 1 per week but not in consecutive weeks. I just have to use the 10 before 2004. Yes 2004. So this is actually quite a good deal. I don't rent videos much but I am sure I'll rent 10 by end of 2004. Oh the deal ends 5th by the way, and every person has a personal copy to pick up on 6th (release date) so no need to rush to BB. Hope that helps.

BTW they entered the 10 free rentals on my account. No physical card for me.

You have it great out there in California with this deal, why the heck is it that the rest of us can only get the "use it or loose it once a week" on this deal?

Did anyone find out if you can get the additional free rental if you use the LOTR card during Monday - Wednesday if you are a Rewards member?

Please post your findings.

Oh, and bump for the last day to get this deal.

Now you just talkin trash foo', that's more than double the price of a rental per movie, many of which are only worth seeing once for most people.

Let's see, you got 278 dvds? That's $4-$8 per movie that you paid to own instead of view, that's like $1500-$2000 :Q out of your pocket. Woo-hoo. You know how much beer that can buy, BeerGod? Unless you're a big movie buff (in which case I stand corrected), between one third to one half of those 278 are total crap worth seeing only once (if that) for majority of us.
