Shula out at Alabama

Amato out at North Carolina State

Koetter out at Arizona State

This after Coker was mercifully let go from Miami on Friday.

Not really surprised. The real fun will be to see who replaces them (especially Shula).

Wiki article:

On November 27, 2006 Spurrier will be announced as the head coach at the University of Alabama. $30 million for 10 years plus incentive bonuses.

I graduated from Bama and I kept saying that next year was going to be the year that determined Shula's future because the team was still suffering from sanctions. After the team regressed towards the end of the season again I couldn't see anyway they kept him unless he made major changes. Word is, his proposed changes were nothing more than shuffling the deck chairs around so he earned his firing.

Don't they have a really good group of redshirts coming in next year though?

Yes but that wouldn't have done any good with Shula. Everyone in the SEC knows his playbook, up the middle (yes the play and how Alabama takes it after every SEC game).

All had been underperforming and most had alumn with a low tolerance for not winning. I don't think Coker should have been fired because of one bad season but that's life.

Yep. The one thing Shula did well was recruit. However, he is unwilling to let an offensive line coach that doesn't seem up to coaching in a run-oriented system (hold over from Mike Price), doesn't hold his players accountable in the weight room, and keeps putting the same right tackle on the field that gets beat when the backup right tackle was performing better.

I don't think it was just the one bad season. It was the atmosphere around the program and the perception that he didn't have control of his players.

Agreed, if Spurrier becomes their new head coach, the Miami players are going to hate life.

For the Alabama fans, any rumors of potential replacements? Other than Spurrier, of course.

Rodriguez most likely isn't going anywhere, he's just putting his name out there to get a fatter contract renewal with WVU.

Houston Nutt was rumored for the Miami job, but he declined and said he hasn't been contacted nor is interested in the Miami job.

Grobe and Johnson are the 2 most likely. Also have heard they are looking at Graham from Rice. If Johnson comes get ready for the flexbone in the SEC.

Which would be a mistake given Alabama's personnel (accurate QB, two outstanding WRs with young ones up and coming). Johnson has run other offenses before though.
