I have a new HP laptop (dv8t-1100) with full HD display (1920x1080) and a blu-ray player/burner but I'm looking for options on the software to play BR movies on it. Any recommendations?
Probably easiest is to use the software that "should" have come with your drive. It's most likely PowerDVD. I use it, it works just fine. The version that comes generally with most BR drives is the stripped down version -- which means the video quality is still top notch but they allow 2.0 stereo only, If I am not mistaken. I ended up buying the full version online (think it was PowerDVD Ultra 9). Works fine for my needs.
You can also use Window Media Centre Classic (the Home theater edition), and physically navigate on the BR drive to the .m2ts file (the largest) and play that file. You will need to install a codec pack.. whether K-Lite or CCCP first though.
Yes, the dv8t came preloaded with a sh*tload of stuff I don't need or want so I wound up uninstalling most of it -- I'll have to see if there wasn't something useful in the preloaded cr*p. Still, nice to know what the options are....
Well I went with PowerDVD 9 Ultra and it worked fine except for the fact that the mouse would not work within the BR menus thou it did work with the player controls.
So, I got to watch Roland Emerick destroy California, AGAIN, on my HD laptop. The PG was fine as my display is 1920x1080 but the audio, thou decent for a laptop, isn't quite up to my Paraigm Studio's in my HT system.
