BTW, this is a post I made earlier in a similar thread now long buried in Hot Topics:

Here's the lowdown. Microsoft is backing HD. What does that tell you in terms of future market saturation? The fact that the newest Xboxes are going to have HD-DVD built in, will be the giant iceberg that the Titanic BR camp is fearing, and it is already happening. Look at the way they are dumping the stand alone HD players for Xboxes as we speak. And in fact, these were the first to be dumped on the market. And Toshiba has also signed on more movie companies recently, and is poised to reclaim this market. Sony is only appearing to dump more movies out now, because if they already own it, it is virtually the same price for them to dump BR as it is SD-DVD at this time.
And concerning the Xbox versus the PS3 controllers, is there really any debate over what controller is superior? the PS3 controller is for people with small hands, like kids who are 12 and under, or Asians. Most adults and teenagers in the US can more easily handle the larger Xbox controllers. And who has more money to spend in the US? The kids 12 and under, or their parents?
I personally know more adults who buy Xboxes to play games based on the controllers and game selections. I know entire fire departments who all buy Xboxes to play games at the station when they are waiting on fire calls. They are not buying PS3s. Or at least, they are not bragging about it, LOL.
And lets not forget this little tidbit: Toshiba invented the DVD format in the first place. You really think they are going to roll over and let Sony mount them now? I kind of doubt it. But you got to give Sony some credit for trying to. It is Sony forcing this "HD/BR WAR" on the consumers. Just like they fought the VHS/Betamax one. They are entirely responsible for it. All Sony is really interested in is the lucrative licensing fees from other movie companies since they already own so much of what they are trying to push in terms of movies. Which means they have to pay ZERO in extra licensing fees to themselves for BR. Toshiba, on the other hand, does not own any media themselves, at least as far as I know, and all movies they license earns them a royalty. That is the major difference between them in terms of strategy. And Toshiba is offering cheaper deals to movie companies to license their HD technology than Sony is, so who do you think will win this war in the end? It already appears obvious.
