I just went to Costco web site to checkout Amex Platinum Cash Rebate Credit Card, and on the bottom of the page with description of benefits, it clearly says "Benefits include Purchase Protection Plan, Buyers Assurance Plan and Travel Accident Insurance". I also called Amex, and CSR said the same thing - Costco card has Buyer Assurance Plan.... Anybody can confirm this?

The Buyer's Assurance plan is not the same thing as Best Value Guarantee. Buyers assurance simply extends the warrany on goods purchased with a card covered by the plan. Costco does not offer any AMEX card with Best Value Gurantee. Costco offers two versions of AMEX cards. The first is the American Express Platinum Cash Rebate Card that gives you a cash back rebate with purchases and the American Express Corporate Card for Small Business which offers small business related benefits. The American Express Platinum Cash Rebate Card has the cash rebate program in lieu of the Best Value Guarantee program.

Fact is not one of you knows why the program has ended. So with that in mind you cannot blame people on this board for it going away. For all you know they stopped it because not enough people used it, and it wasn't worth paying the insurance company (that's who does the refunds, not Amex, that's why it is not just credited on your card!) for the potential claims of thousands of Blue Cards out there, even though the claims were not being made.

I got the Blue card because it had this feature and had no annual fee, even though I already had the feature on my Gold card. Once I had Blue I used it for all my electronics purchases, just in case the price dropped later. So their plan worked, it made me get the card, and use it rather than my other cards. Well now it will work against them, now i have no real use for the card.

For me i'll just use my Gold card if i think the price might drop. I would prefer to use Blue, but i got over it pretty quick, I suggest you all do the same .

On to the next deal.....

actually the girl i spoke to told me they were losing money on it, and lots of people were using it fraudulently (i asked how, wondering what theyd consider fraud), she said people would make fake web sites to PM.. that's pretty LOW imo.. but there you have it.

Just got off the phone with AMEX and they stated that the blue BVG will be discontinued, as of May 1 like everyone has posted, but will remain on the Gold and the Platinum Card, so all is not lost if you have one of the other two cards...What can ya do...There will always be hot deals, what did we do before AMEX anyway?

So far, I haven't received any notification that the BVG program will be dropped from my Blue card benefits. I called AMEX this morning and the CSR asked me if I had received anything in writing stating that BVG would be dropped.

Has anyone received any *hard copy* notice of this change? I thought AMEX was required to give written notice of changes.

I did not get the notice I always pay my bills off
maybe you are right it is for people who did not pay bills.

<< << Just called Amex, I was wondering why I just got a change in policy letter and then a day or two later they would cancel the program. What they told me was that only people that miss payments or have large unpaid balances would have that feature turned off. People in goodstanding will still have the BVG. So start paying those bills guys and girls! >> >>

This is definitely gone May 1st for all Blue cards. I talked with a BVG Examiner supervisor today. I am wondering if it will stay on the Optima Platinum card?

I'm not trying to be picky but a lot of people have *talked* to a lot of other people at AMEX and have received different answers. I though that any credit card company had to provide written notice of changes to their programs. I may be wrong on this point and that is the reason for my question: Has anyone received *hard copy* (not email) notice of the BVG drop for Blue cards?

I received *hard copy* notice of the changes AMEX is making to the card. My thinking is that if they give *written* notice (by USPS mail) of mere changes to the program, then I'd expect written notice of a complete cancellation of the program.

BVG still listed as a benefit of the Blue card at the AMEX website. We may want to watch this page for any indication of a change.

Well, if they do keep the BVG on the Gold card, $75 is a SMALL price to pay for the lowest price. In most cases, it will pay for itself after the first price match, and then you're back in the black.

I have a brokerage account at Fidelity Investments. They gave me an AMEX Gold card and they are paying the annual fee.

I also have a Blue card and I got the Email a couple of days ago saying BVG is gone after May 1.

i just got my Blue statement in the mail and it included a "Summary of Changes to Agreements and Benefits" to begin May 1. It shows that BVG is still a feature.

No if you read the new TOS CLOSELY, you will see that it specifically states that you need to call AMEX to verify that your specific asccount is offering the program described at the top of each program benefit in the new TOS effective 5/1/2002. AMEX uses the same TOS for all cards. BVG for BLUE is dead so get over it.
