Rant ahoy!

Ever since Steam (from Valve) has been around, I've always been astonished by how little they actual do. I wonder if anyone is in charge of it at all. Anyone else notice that?

I can't really express how bad of a job I think they do, I guess you just have to use the "service" for a while to see for yourself.

For example, they took around 2 years to get their "Friends list" thing working. How could that of taken 2 years to do? - And it was the exact same when it started working again. Even if one guy was working on it, it seems like it should of been completed in no longer than a month. I only have one friend that uses Steam so I don't use it much anyways, but it's pretty sad how long it took them (or him) to fix it.

Another thing that's really bugged me is the non working Mute button that has been around since Steam launched. You can't mute anyone, people can just spam racist crap as much as they want, and you can't mute them. I'm surprised they actually thought about putting in a Mute feature in the first place, but they never actually bothered to try and get it working. All you can do is mute voice, people can spam text, or radio commands all they want, and you can't do anything about it. This has been the case since Steam launched 3 or 4 years ago. Of all the games that need a Mute button, CS and CS:S would be the top two. But, the people (or person) at Steam has never bothered to try and fix or implement this feature. If some idiots keep spamming text/radio commands, your only option is to find a different server. So, the bad folks on Steam pretty much just do whatever they want, including hacking. Again, this has been the case since Steam launched, amongst thousands and thousands of complaints. Steam just doesn't care, i tells yas.

Hacking is still rampant as ever in CS, Steam/Valve does nothing about it. I've sent them concrete evidence of people hacking and their Steam ID information, and they probably never even look at it. Months later I see the same people, still hacking, playing on the same servers. Steam either completely stopped caring within the first year, or, like I suspect, no one actually works there, and no one is in charge of it - That's really the only logical explanation I can come up with, sadly. I'm really hoping the whole Steam project gets axed, which it rightly deserves. It needs to be shut down like a bankrupt factory. Hopefully if that happens, Valve can actually hire some competent people to start a similar service. Only, this time, they could actually fix issues that have been around 3+ years, and listen more to their users, and ban hackers forever. Maybe this fantasy future service could actually even improve more and more as time goes on, unlike Steam, which is a service that gets worse and worse.

They are in charge of managing these immensely popular games like CS, and they just sit back and do nothing all day, all year even. Like I said, it's like no one even works there.

Can anyone prove people actually work for Steam?

I think that would fix most of your problems. When I played CS and CS:S and still DoD:S, I would find a server or three I liked with good players and frequent those servers often. Usually they'll have relatively active members, don't have to worry about hackers, etc etc. They're all multiplayer games so who you play with dictates the fun you'll be having.

Why do people need to find a new game? CS is great when you find a server that has good admins getting rid of hackers. New games are nothing but more of the same old stuff anyway.

1. Steam friends has been broken from the get go. No real excuse for that and they should have fixed it.
2. Steam is the delivery system, not the game itself. If you have problems with muting, spamming, hacking, etc, you shouldn't be complaining about Steam so much as who actually developed that particular Steam game. This isn't a problem limited to Steam. These problems exist any time you potentially play a game with a bunch of random mouth-breathers.

Personally, I love Steam. New games get added regularly and I can get lots of interesting demos for free. Prices are usually discounted and I don't have to waste time going to a store or waiting for an online order to be delivered. Steam FTW, honest.

You mentioned the in-game mute. That was working perfectly for as long as CSS was out until just about a month ago.

I agree that Steam used to be shite, but every program has its quirks in beta stages. I really respect Sierra for what they did with Steam, it really works great now.

Even though Friends was borked, and they somehow screwed up the mute function! I don't want to hear some kid pretend that he's talking to his mom for some chocolate milk! :|

1. steam isn't a company, it's a program.
2. there are millions of people playing steam games at all times of the day. you can't expect them to go through hacker accusations.
3. no matter what any anti-cheat team tries to do, the hackers will always be 1 step ahead. there is no stopping it. that's why there are server admins.
4. i never once had a problem muting people in game, and i've used steam since day 1.
5. lol friends list? people actually use that? just use xfire if you really care that much.
