PC continuously reboots...

I installed GA-8KNXP, 3.0/1mb/800fsb, (2)1gb sticks ram=2gb, AGP8x,
I am using a 120gb HD which already has XP Pro + programs from old setup until I get the system up & running.
PROBLEM: When I boot the PC, it post then screen goes black momentarily, appearing to be loading OS, shows a blue background (too fast to see or pause) then shuts down and reboots over and over. I noticed in post the HD was not recognized but in BIOS it is listed with all the correct parameters.

TROUBLESHOOT: I pulled ram trying one at a time, disconnected all IED ( cd/dvd ) from board and I moved the (1)HD IDE to each ( 1-4 ) board assignments. Choose FAIL-SAFE in BIOS, disabled SATA in BIOS until I am running stable, also tried ?ONLY? DSP2-CPU/fan- one HD-AGP8x-2sticks ram-system fans.

Is there anyone else that has faced this and what actions fixed it?

Thanks in advance for all advice given.

UPDATE ! ! !

called GIGABYTE TECH Support>>
was told if existing OS installed... MUST boot to WIN CD and repair or re-install. Or just begin fresh with new HD performing FULL install. Of course there are settings in BIOS that MUST be reconfigured (according to GB Tech) before as well as after installation. So I'll install new 250gb SATA and will follow his instructions this evening (if they work) and will post their specific instructions.... so that others can benefit from it as well.

Problem: Reboots. You have 'auto-reboot' turned on, so you don't see a bluescreen.

Suggestion: Try safe mode and let us know what happens there. If that fails, read steps in URL in my sig, especially step #10, and do a find on that page for "How do you do this, exactly?" for detailed steps on using your original registry. If that works, then it's probably an issue with the registry. If that doesn't work, it's probably an issue with files on the system.

If this is the first time you've tried booting with that machine (ie it's a new computer) then put the HDD back in the old machine, change the IDE controller driver to the standard Windows XP IDE driver, and then put the HDD back in the new machine and try again.

Yes, you could do a new install, but the original issue was "can you move a hdd from an old machine to a new one" and the issue was the drive controllers in use, most like, so - could you not even do a fresh format/install with the old RAM in place?

Please forgive me... Guess I wasn't clear enough in original post.

I appreciate your input.

My issue was not if I could put the HD in from the old PC. I have done that a few times already, I just had to have the drivers for the hardware in the new location available to load.

My issue was what might be causing the loop in this configuration(MOBO, RAM, CPU, etc.) this time when I never encountered it before in a HD move.

I was hoping it wasn't the new GA-8KNXP having a flaw or defect and thought someone may have inside info.

Anyways... it turns out to be the ram. I had a set of ddr 512 from the old system, swapped them(took a long 15-20 second) and have not had any issues at all. I played with the darn thing for days.... then something as simple as bad ram... lol go figure

BTW: Gigabyte Tech Support told me that you MUST either re-install or repair any current installations???
They said there was no way around it.... " I " am not saying that, I am only telling what GB Tech told me.

Thanks again dclive
