Yesterday I installed my new P4 2.4b (retail HSF) and a Albatron PX845pe Pro MB and Samsung PC2700 Cas 2.5 ram @ 406 bs. The system is stable and running at fsb @153 and cpu @2754 temps are 47 underload it takes about 20 min to reach this temp. My question comes from this problem, I can't boot 1 mhz fsb higher no matter what voltage or ram setting. Now for my question during the very begining boot phase is the cpu being supplied with default voltage until the bios loads and kicks up to the voltage selected in the bios? If this is the case with this MB undervolting would the pin trick cause the MB to supply the higher voltage during the begining boot phase?

You have most likely reached the limit that you can overclock that thing is what I think. Alright there!

My guess too. I think your RAM is the limit. Try PC3200 or 3500 .Then you should get a little more out of your CPU.

EDITHWF: Also have you tried the MSI tool like I suggested in your other thread ?

Mith and Scoobyman

I am sure its possible that I've reached the cpus limit. I've never had a cpu that stoped going any higher instantly. I have yet to see any of the normal signs of a cpus limit like 3dmark not completing, not making it into Windows or locking up at the desktop, Unreal saying the textures are corupted and so on. This MB has 3 settings for ram besides voltage they are 2, 2.5, 2.66. I'm running @ 153 fsb with the ram setting at 2.7v and 2.66=406 bs. It seems that by selecting 2 and runnig the ram at 300 bs that the ram would be elimated as the problem.

I'm hoping this is just a pin trick fix. This MB undervolts, and while booting the first voltage applied to the cpu is default (1.5v) so since the MB undervolts the cpu sees 1.42 to 1.47 reguardless of what its set to in the bios. Then the bios kick in and applies the selected voltage to the cpu.

I am looking for suggestions and to see if anyone can confirm this.

Then the bios kick in and applies the selected voltage to the cpu.
so isn't that the same time as the bios loads ALL the over clocked settings ?
good luck

I think the first voltage that is applied to the cpu is controlled by the vid pins. When the cpu starts just a few cycles latter the bios steps in and applies the the settings selected in the bios.

I did do the pin trick and it solved my problem. It would seem that my cpu needed a little more that default to start when running above 153 fsb. Maybe that is part of the reason Intel rasied the default votage on the C1's. I'm at 2898 mhz 161 fsb vcore set @ 1.74. I've ran several checks today and no stability problems. I think my vcore is a little higher than needed so I'll back it down over the next few days and find out how low it can be stable. I'm using the retail HSF and would I am not sure what reasonable with for Intel cpu temp wise. Its been about 2 or 3 years since I worked with any Intel based products.
