I just got an FX55 on ebay for about $200 and I was thinking of using it to upgrade my current board. I currently have a socket 478 motherboard IC7-G and would like to put the FX55 in there.. I also have an X1900XT that should be coming in the mail today and was wondering how I should go about getting it to work in my system.

How are you going to put an AMD processor in a 478 system? Also that PCI-E card will not work in an AGP slot. Don't use a hacksaw because it doesn't work.

just shove it in there. if it doesn't fit quite right use a hammer to make sure that it gets full connection with your MB.

For the FX55 get a large hammer and some superglue.
Take out your old p4 and put a layer of superglue in the socket, now place the fx55 in the socket and smack it with the hammer until it sits flatly in the socket.

Yea I was thinking of just bending off some of it's pins so it'd fit the socket, it's not like I'm going to need all of the pins since it's only a single core processor.

If you break the pins all the "cold solution" will leak out. Warranty definitely VOID.

that will probably work. remember that AMD processors run cooler than Intel ones & because of it, you won't need a heatsink fan for it.

but, if you want to take the ultimate leap in computer building, watercool it. find an old waterbottle and cut it in half. fill the bottom portion of the bottle with water. flip your MB upside down and place the CPU over the filled water bottle. carefully, epoxy the bottle to the motherboard. if you use too much it will ruin the bottle and then you willl have to start over again. once it is cured, voila, you've got a kickass watercooled setup.
