I agree wholeheartedly. The only thing I could see is if someone wanted a sporty car but couldn't afford the insurance of the car with the V8.

It had nothing to do with insurance and everything to do with budget. The GT was simply out of my price range for a new car, and the upgrades that come with it weren't enough to warrant waiting. The sixer definately has enough power to be fun, especially for someone moving up from regular vanilla sedans for the past ... oh 15 years.
Trust me, when I have the "real" mid-life crisis (my wife is under the impression this is the real one...oh how she is wrong) then I'll be ready for the dive into a tricked out GT Premium. Right now...was just a question of dollars and cents.

It's def a fun car with power, but I'm an elitest bastard and I always need to have everything top. Video card, car model, real Coca-Cola and not the no name brand, etc. Even if I don't have money I just won't buy it. Same goes in games, I will spend 10 months of raiding in WoW just to get an item I want.

No worries, it's all cool. Everyone has their own priorities and whatnot. I just priced out what the tricked out GT would be - the way I'd want it - and it rolls in at $43k. With that said, I can live with this car for another 5-8 years and then move up after my kids are in and out of college by and large.

How much did you pay for your car out the door?

He's in the US, insurance is dirt cheap there. Even then, I would make sure I had enough savings to cover the insurance. Personally if I couldn't swing it I wouldn't get a stang at all, but that's just me, I can't put myself in the shoes of others when it comes to that situation.

You would be surprised it doesn't take much to make your insurance expensive.
A couple at fault accidents and/or tickets and boom.....
My cousin was in his early 30s paying $5k a year in insurance for a POS Mitsubishi Eclipse because of several indiscretions earlier in his driving career.

Congrats! Enjoy the car.
Edit-Not sure if they still have those long throw shifters in the Mustang but if so I'd recommend an aftermarket shifter. I had a Hurst in my old '94 Mustang GT and it made a world of difference.
