Nice car but I never understood how someone would get a V6 stang instead of the V8. If you don't have enough cash to dish out for a V8 why get one at all? I mean 5 k savings will be another few months or a year, I'd wait.

I agree wholeheartedly. The only thing I could see is if someone wanted a sporty car but couldn't afford the insurance of the car with the V8.

He's old, his ears and eyes don't work as well as they used to.

He's in the US, insurance is dirt cheap there. Even then, I would make sure I had enough savings to cover the insurance. Personally if I couldn't swing it I wouldn't get a stang at all, but that's just me, I can't put myself in the shoes of others when it comes to that situation.

It had nothing to do with insurance and everything to do with budget. The GT was simply out of my price range for a new car, and the upgrades that come with it weren't enough to warrant waiting. The sixer definately has enough power to be fun, especially for someone moving up from regular vanilla sedans for the past ... oh 15 years.

Trust me, when I have the "real" mid-life crisis (my wife is under the impression this is the real one...oh how she is wrong) then I'll be ready for the dive into a tricked out GT Premium. Right now...was just a question of dollars and cents.

It's def a fun car with power, but I'm an elitest bastard and I always need to have everything top. Video card, car model, real Coca-Cola and not the no name brand, etc. Even if I don't have money I just won't buy it. Same goes in games, I will spend 10 months of raiding in WoW just to get an item I want.

No worries, it's all cool. Everyone has their own priorities and whatnot. I just priced out what the tricked out GT would be - the way I'd want it - and it rolls in at $43k. With that said, I can live with this car for another 5-8 years and then move up after my kids are in and out of college by and large.

How much did you pay for your car out the door?

That's an awesome price vs 43 k for the V8 you wanted, never realized the price diff is so great. In your situation it I would do the same because it would be hard to resist. Enjoy the car

It takes a strong man to stay under budget. Good for you!!!

You would be surprised it doesn't take much to make your insurance expensive.

A couple at fault accidents and/or tickets and boom.....

My cousin was in his early 30s paying $5k a year in insurance for a POS Mitsubishi Eclipse because of several indiscretions earlier in his driving career.

That's brutally expensive. For me, two cars (2001 Honda Odyssey and 2009 Ford Mustang) with two drivers, clean records = $1300/yr.

Edit-Not sure if they still have those long throw shifters in the Mustang but if so I'd recommend an aftermarket shifter. I had a Hurst in my old '94 Mustang GT and it made a world of difference.

Not sure about their S197 stuff, but MGW is THE shifter to get for a SN95, particulary on the Cobra T-56.

I like V6 Mustangs. If not for them, my Terminator would never have come to be.

V6 cars are fun to work with, so are V8s, but V6s have a nice sleeper look. The dual exhausts would be a nice blend.

V6 is good - but not this one. Sorry for all the negative comments, but that V6 of mustang is one of worst V6 you can buy today on the market.
Ford's 3.0 or 3.5 V6 duratec have power and smoothness and decent gas mileage. But that 4.0L is just worst on every count that matters: low output on high displacement (only 210HP) and bad gas mileage (16 / 24 mpg).

17/26 with the 5 speed and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds is actually great. 240ft lbs of torque is handy too. Mileage not much different than a Taurus with the 3.5L and the Mustang is considerably quicker and more agile.
